Twilight Illusion: She Waits

Fantasy Faire: Creations of Twilight Illusion

Creations of Twilight Illusion

Pulling out the wonderful things made by creators in Twilight Illusion, I definitely had one of my big challenges! I laid down the foundation using a literal foundation - part of the ruins created by BamPu Legacies (Twilight Illusion) and available in a ton of styles and colors. These are a pleasant tealy green with bits of yellowish orange in the texture and has enough pieces to put together some interesting layouts; I'm showing a fraction of what's available here. The wall is up front with the fireplace-bearing house foundation beyond the wall's archway, so even here you can see how th epieces can be layered over each other to create visual interest. The palm trees and monkey sandwiched in between them is actually a quest gift - so check out the Tale of Exiles to get that!

In front of all of that I put a couple of monument pieces from Silent Sanctuary (Twilight Illusion), complete with flowers and, in one case, an animal to shine things up. The larger one has a lot of standing stones and a dragon skull hanging from the center stones; the smaller has an opening rubbed with red ocre for effect, and with a badger sneaking around it. In front and to the left is a hollow tree with inhabitants from Beyond Persuasion design (Twilight Illusion), a very cute interaction between a fae and her dragon friend. It's more difficult to see that the tree itself has a face - a lot of cute in a very small space! The final touch, and by far the brightest and purest, is from United InshCon (Twilight Illusion) - a pixie home with several pixies to fly around it. This is a really adorable addition to show your local pixies that you're interested in making space for them as well! Tucked into it's stones I added one final detail from Fantasy China (Twilight Illusion), a tall-standing rose plant to add some color among all of that white!

Fantasy Faire: A Traveller in OtherWorld

OtherWorld: Brave New World

OtherWorld is another world altogether - on the scifi end of scifi/fantasy. The alien landscape, striking dual level sim, sneaky pathways through all sorts of terrains, and multiple conversation areas are really fun. I married medieval and futuristic for my look - starting with a gown from Senzafine (Blackmoor).  It's a lovely low v-neckline with long streamers falling from each shoulder. The thick empire waistline belt is an additional nice touch, leaving room for the rest of the skirt to bell out. The sleeves have a shallower version of the same belle sleeves, and Senzafine has done a fantastic job of combining the gold trim which is consistent across all of the dress colors with the textured richness of the colors themselves. The textures themselves are fiddly and delicate, delighting the eye. It comes in all of the standard sizes.

OtherWorld: Glittering

Light flashes and reflects off of surfaces of glass, metal, and water - dazzling the eyes. The glass makes up an improbable bridge over the sparkling sea, the brittle surface chiming under hard shoes and whispering at the caress of bare feet. More glass hangs within metal cages, some standing at the top of poles and others hanging from heavy chains. Delicate patterns are pressed into the sides of poles and gateways, outlining large and small pieces with indentations in swirls and whirls that intricately double back on themselves. More panels of glass are set into metal archways; below them hang flags as intricately decorated as the metal it hangs from. Small islands rise out of the water nearby, stone edifices piled upon them. Some glow with more intricate patterns while others funnel water up through the depths to spring into fountains. Plants alive with light sprout form otherwise unremarkable soil, taller stands of palm trees and bamboo standing as shadowy neighbors.

Fantasy Faire: A Traveller in Echtra

Echtra:

Echtra is a world of ice and snow, a story about a child-like lord of winter missing his summer sister, and so it seems appropriate that the outfit I put together is the very embodiment of spring. Swirling around my bright spring look is a set of sakura petals from NAMINOKE (Echtra), which are also a pose-giver via a HUD - though I didn't make use of the poses here. The wings, with their pale flowers and long golden cloths tied around the veins, are also from NAMINOKE (Echtra) and I really adore them - from how naturally the branches seem to fall and how pretty the flowers are. The combo of wings and petals is just fun, especially when different poses seem to bring them into relationship with each other - as you can see. Trust that you will see these again in the future - these are absolutely a delight!

Creations of Echtra

This lovely couples pose is a rezzable from Roquai (Echtra), a taller figure embracing a shorter one, fingers covering each other. It's one of a number of matched sets, each with accompanying swirls of Sakura blossoms from NAMINOKE (Echtra). The poses and petals were done as a collaboration between these two stores, and the effect is lovely and striking - whether one keeps to the arrangements included, or ads some flourishes of one's own.

Fantasy Faire: The Echtra Experience

When you land in Echtra, there is a sign you can click to join the Echtra Experience to learn about what's going on and get some shiny gifts! The goal is to look for small golden footprints and stand on them, thus advancing what you know. Initially, a large black band will show up across the bottom of your screen and you have to accept permissions to affect your avatar. Rikkon the Cheerful is standing right nearby; when you move on top of the golden footprints, you're view moves and he speaks to you.

Fantasy Faire: A Traveller in Serenity

Serenity: By the Shore

Serenity offered up some amazing views, amazing heights, and some truly unique items to wear. The The Stringer Mausoleum (Serenity) offers up a truly unique hair - roses growing along the line of the skull from forehead to the nape of the neck, available in a bunch of unusual colors. If it doesn't perfectly meet your skull, it's modify-ok so that you can shift the roses to fit your head. I added on top of that a set of lovely antlers complete with jewelry from Spyralle (Serenity). The shape of these antlers is amazing, wide and sweeping with balls of light on the ends, while the forehead jewelry hands from golden chains. The design of it is rounded and interesting, with a delicate pattern placed behind the gold trim - a good example of Spyralle's excellent combination of shape and texture. This RFL design is lovely and there's also a HUD driven multipack available.

[CIRCA] Living (Serenity) made some amazing items for the Fantasy Faire, and I'm showing off most of the pieces of the set here. I love the tree with a face - I've been a sucker for trees with faces since The Last Unicorn - looking solemn and quiet. The log off to the left is a seat as well as being highly decorative, with cute flower accents, and comes as part of a matched set. The little open log has the cutest rabbits in it - you can see the tiny ears poking up over the top! A lot of the little details are part of the pieces, like the rocks being part of the archway, which makes them excellent additions to a complicated landscape. Swing by Fantasy Faire - it's open through this weekend, and everything about it is incredible.

Fantasy Faire: A Traveller in Sapphire Mirror Lake

Sapphire Mirror Lake: Grand Arrival

Sapphire Mirror Lake has both a purpose and an artistic bent, being a creation of Haveit Neox in brilliant color and stunning, singular design. The center of the sim is an enormous stage area with a hollow underneath for the performers. The rest is an amazing array of figures leading someone on a long walk around the sim through a crowd of celebrants and down underwater to a secret gallery. To dress up for this festive sim, I'm put on the third skin from .:Soul:. (Blackmoor) which are donation items, only this time instead of wearing the brightly colored version, I'm showing the muted "faded" version included in each package. It's a sweet combo of pink and purple, with the same bubbly pattern as the rest of these skins, and I loved making a look around it.

Sapphire Mirror Lake: Crouched in Wait

A tree, surrounded by fluttering leaf shapes in green and gold leans it's narrow arms over like a crouching figure reaching forward with branching arms. Statues kneel, coated in brilliant colors and wrapped in large-patterned cloth, to either side of an equally large bridge hanging like those same cloths stretched out for travelers to pass over the inky dark lake, brimming with weird reflections. Orange, blue, yellow, and green cling to tightly woven linen threads, making a bridge as sturdy as it is beautiful. Some of the statue heads are bare, hats held proudly under the sun, while others are stacked high with gravity defying boxes. Here and there the pathway ceases for a time, large silvery stones offering purchase for steady feet and wide leaps from point to point. Overhead, delicate spiderwebs have caught the stars which fall form the sky, letting them shine gently to light the way around the edifice of entertainment, the nearby mountain upon which stories are told and dances are performed.

Fantasy Faire: A Traveller in Dangarnon

Dangarnon: Making an Entrance

Dangarnon is a maze of a place, perfect for a sleek and sexy fae to make her mark. I went for a smooth blend of skin and hair colors. The skin is from Nephilim (Dangarnon) and is a lovely brushed gold with purple shadows, giving my skin an almost metallic effect. The use of purple instead of black or gray makes it seem warmer and richer, giving the effect of a natural patina despite this being a texture on a skin! Nephilim gives cleavage options as well as appliers for Belleza, Maitreya, and SLink; I matched my ears off of .:Soul:.'s included options and it works well. I also matched the skin with a similar tone in my Wasabi Pills hair, and continued that same shade of gold into my Deviance wings. One of the fun things about skin and hair is that you can use the to highly contrast with each other, or make a complete look which is really seamless across a lot of body parts. I went with the second in this case, and i think it really works with the high contrast clothing choices I made.

Dangarnon: In the Spotlight

Fantasy Faire: There are Giants in the Land

One of the fun things every year is seeing the giants go around the Fairelands.

Ceri in Dangarnon

Usually it's Ceri Quixote alone, but this year several more giants joined her in wandering the Fairelands and putting everything into perspective. Lady Lorelle joined slightly smaller than Ceri, but the true ground-shaker was Kraven Moireau, who clocked in at significantly larger than even Ceri! Seeing them all together, with standard sized avatars nearby, was really striking. I only wish we could have lured a petite and a mini size to get the full range of sizes in Second Life! I love all of the variety found on the grid, and a chance to see so many of them congregate during this very special celebration.

Creations of Dangarnon

Creations found in Dangarnon lent themselves to excess of color, of design, and of light, full of shine and fancy. For this explosion of excess, I put on both of the outfits form Storybook (Dangarnon) - a largely cutout shorts outfit, and the wriggly tentacles which can be a whole outfit of their own! The tentacles in particular have been a popular outfit on flickr! They're certainly one of the more evocative things available, and perfect for the spirit of Dangarnon. All around me are a bunch of spinning, moving cubes from E.V.E. (Dangarnon), available in all white, all black, or a combination of the two. They were a lot of fun to just put in place and let go, and the reflections they cast were simply delightful. I paired it with a bunch of three dimensional wall hangings from The Dark Fae (Dangarnon), available in a gacha with a fatpack for the rare. These can be a fantastic gift as well as something to hang on your wall if you're feeling a little insecure. Hanging from a couple of the signs are a pair of lamps from Zyn (Dangarnon), richly colored with thorny carapaces and long dark chains to hang them by. They look like something a despot might hang in the throne room he stole from the previous ruler, all darkness and danger. Also from Zyn are the wild and wonderful ball plants with their thick roots and bulbous blossoms. I particularly like the color and sheen to them - they really will stand out in any sort of landscape.

Fantasy Faire: A Traveller in Bright Haven

Bright Haven: Haven Home

Bright haven is one of the shinies sims of the Fairlands this year - a delight of color and texture - and I put together a look primarily from this Haven, but flavored with some of the lovelies from previous realms I've covered. This hat and veil are from LOVE ROLEPLAY AND FANTASY STORE (Tinkers Hollow), and I adore both the styling of web and flowers, and the fact it is modify ok so I could fit the veil over my bangs. The large lotuses in particular are lovely, and helped to set the tone for my whole outfit. The gown is pieces from Tayren’s Fantasy Fashions (Bright Haven), making use of two of the colors sent my way to mix and match purple and gold. In the original, the bodice chan came with some flexible pieces, but I minimized them to focus on the lovely curves of the gown - fully lined! - and the way the scale texture was worked over its curves. The necklace has the same dragon motif, and for dancing the flexible pieces would give some fantastic motions and flow. The wings came with it and I love how they are textured and shaped; the shadows are awesome and rounded, mimicing the smooth curves of the scales dress.

Bard Queen: Before you leave, emissary, I would like to give you another gift myself. Please pick one of these items...
Bard Queen: The elven knife has the keenest of blades. It will cut through the hardest roots, the strongest vines. It may even cut through rock, although that would take time and blunt the edge.
Bard Queen: On the other hand, I could give you instead this very special candle. Burn it and it will surely calm down even the most aggressive creatures. Or you may find use in the special unguents worked into the wax or its magically enhanced wick.
Bard Queen: The choice is yours, which one do you prefer?

Sunday Squee: Fantasy Faire

Fairlands Junction: Tiny Flickers

Fantasy Faire is going on until May first, and I love it to distraction. This year, I'm doing my best to do three kinds of posts for each sim. One about the landscaping and rezzable poses form each sim, making a scene and writing a few details about the items. One about the sim itself, with all of the details. And one about an outfit, with pictures taken on the sim. I've been going to the amazing events, watching the shows and sometimes taking pictures. Plus there's an amazing literary challenge, where you can write a story for each sim. Ironically, the last is going in the opposite order of my posts - someday soon I'll meet myself in the middle!

I love the sheer explosive glee of the Fantasy Faire: the excesses, the over-indulgences, the creativity and enthusiasm. I love exploring each sim - fourteen this year! - and crawling into the minds and inner worlds of amazing creators. Many of these creators return from year to year, making bridges between the sims they create and linking together those Fairelands from year to year in style and substance. I love the people, and how much they love what they do. I love the silliness, the kindness, the focus on the positive to the exclusion of almost everything else.

There's another week of Fantasy Faire - come and join us in this excess of imagination! I look forward to seeing you there.

Creations of Bright Haven

Bright haven has some fantastic goodies - beginning with these rough-hewn log planters, filled to the brim with all sorts of blossoms. The lobelia and impatients are Relay for Life donation items from Kaerri (Bright Haven), and their bright splashes of color make a fantastic backdrop for the rest of the scene I created. I love the texture on the wood, and the way it catches bright lights. Tucked behind them are even larger flowers, fit for a giant garden, from ThatChick (Bright Haven). The textures are multi-colored and fun, ranging from the pale white and pearl drops of the ghost flower to the shining cool shades of the other crystalline flowers. All of the wild creatures are from ThatChick as well, Bohemot with her rainbow wings swooping in from one side to startle the winged pigs circling flowers that match their pastel pale hues. At the center of the scene is a fantastic fountain from Magnum Opus (Bright Haven), white particles spilling from the base and bright pink poppies sprouting up to offer a splash of brightness. All of these amazing landscaping items are available at Bright Haven during the Fantasy Faire - so come by and experience the faire first hand!

Fantasy Faire: The Tale of Exiles Hunt - Part 1

You purchase the HUD from vendors at the landing areas of each sim; there's a standard version, which gives your the HUD, and the deluxe, which also gives out an outfit to wear. You need to be wearing three things out of the HUD folder - Two which say "Attach me" and the HUD. A permission request will come up when you put everything on; accept it so that you can be moved, you can be shown wearing the right things, etc...

My comments and hints are in italics. Part Two is here.

Chapter I: A Hero is Needed

Meet the Bard Queen in Fairlands Junction

You will be teleported to the Fairlands, right next to the Bard Queen. Click on her and a video will play, telling the story of the Quest you are about to accept. She will also give you a necklace to wear to mark you as her Emissary - a lovely gold harp.
