Dawn's Promise comes on you like spring - at first gradually and then all in a rush. It is studded with brightly shaded sitting areas that somehow blend into the pinky misty backdrop while still giving the scene an air of play. Everywhere you look is a new spot for delight, some other living thing breathing alongside you. The path is meandering but easy to follow, going between buildings and over bridges with reckless abandon. Everything is slightly worn and slightly off-center - roofs have beams exposed and tiles missing, plaster has worn off to show the brick underneath, and the textures are rough, as if painted by watercolors. I love when creators take the extra step of making things worn; in Second Life it's often easier to make things perfect and uniform, so the extra effort to add cracks and breaks are striking. Little details are tucked into those irregular areas, like a ghost haunting the attic of one store under the watchful eyes of a crow, or a bathtub full of flowers spilling out into the landscape. Off to the edges, small gathering areas float on stone islands - offering privacy and beauty all in one.

I'm wearing a gorgeous gown from John Dee's Emporium (Dawn’s Promise) with some great shaping along the front and a lot of layers. It also has a rounded ruff along the back, which means it's time to break out the updos! This ones' color is fantastic, a rich purple that goes pink under the right light, and decorated with gold letters across the front of the underskirt. It comes in standard sizes with an alpha layer for legacy mesh, and is well rigged - for example, the shoulders remain smooth even while I posed with my arms over my head. It came with the front half of my headdress with the attached veil but not the triangular shape underneath (that belongs to the second headpiece I'm wearing - see below!). Veils are notoriously difficult with hair, but I found this a very easy fit with enough ballooning to allow for bangs below while remaining close enough to still act like a veil across my eyes. I would have wanted the veil just on it's own; getting it as a bonus to a new gown was a real treat.

Speaking of second headpiece, the triangular form over my brow and higher row of uneven gold bars belongs to a headdress AiShA (Dawn’s Promise) is selling for the Faire. It's a smooth fronted headdress with curving sides which fits decently over a close updo and would fit best over a bare head or henin. Rising up behind like a corona are irregular gold rays making a high silhouette. It comes in silver and gold and can be resized via a touch menu.

I am also showing off another necklace from Bliensen + MaiTai (The Spirit Pool), this time a curling necklace with seed like dangles accented with tiny cabochons. It comes in black, gold, and silver, and I really love the open effect and dangling edges - it makes it a unique and interesting accent. This and more are available very briefly at the Fantasy Faire, so go and check them out!

Alia's builds are almost always one of my favorites, and I adored The Rose the second I set foot inside of it. I have a major soft spot for Venice, and this sim really brought that city to mind, from the houses with their stoops ending at the waterline, to the gondola style boats floating on the water. The hues are gentle shades of pink which set off the mint water that was the default windlight beautifully. It grows up rather than out, the outer edges facades while the stores grow up the middle and curve around in a confusing and delighting manner, all the way up to the dance stage on the roof of the central building. I loved the layers and details even while cursing every time I got lost! Rose petals are everywhere, and here and there a black mask lies discarded as if from some party the night before. I was most startled when I crossed a bridge, looked to the side, and realized there was a watery tunnel all the way through! Fantastic!

Looking closer, it was the details which caught me - lion headed fountains; a small grouping of pigeons around some lamps; the edging of gold on a set of steps; tiny windows tucked in above larger openings; gorgeous stained glass along the front of Fallen Gods' store. I want rooms here; I want to move in, and decorate, and look out through the gorgeous windows to see a flawless horizon line in the distance. I love the lines of statuary as well; they remind me of a country house I saw in Germany, where at the top of each pillar there was a different person carved out of marble, some of them intact while others were broken and pitted by the environment. I love the criss-cross of levels, the gradual reduction of size as you go higher, the unexpected touches and details that confront you when you turn a corner. I was most struck by some words written on the wall within Alia's store, though:

"Do not watch the petals fall from the rose with sadness;

know that, like life, some things must fade before they can bloom again."

I went petite for this sim, starting with one of the men who got me into petites to begin with - Alia of Fallen Gods (The Rose). His sparkly petite released this Faire is a lovely cloud of a skin, a soft blue with teal and purple highlights. I'm showing it off with Fallen Gods' specific royale head and the elf ears, with it's narrower and more aquiline face. I also added the bright teal eyes which come with this particular petite, though I'm wearing my own shape - the petite form does respond to quite a few sliders, making shape important even when one is diminutive. Night Sparkle comes with the Spirit accessories, including tiny teal butterflies and enough coverage to go out in public along with delicate wings. It also has a hair included, so you can either wear this petite out of the box, or modify it to meet your hopes and dreams.

I stayed on The Rose for MacMoragh an Gabha (The Rose)'s weapons, adding a katana to match my wings just in case someone got fresh with me! You can draw or return it by clicking on the sheath or using one of the included gestures, and a lovely but tiny blade appears in your other hand - I love those effects! The roleplaying sheath is designed to work with the Unity Maxim Meter, so look into this if that's the meter your roleplay uses. I love the details, from the thread tied around the sheath to the silver chasing; this really is the perfect touch for a miniature martial artist.

I had to leave The Rose to continue my ensemble with the help of NSP Florals (The Hill). There is an astonishing amount of stuff on my tiny head, starting with the cap and curls that come with a color changing HUD for the hair itself. Tucked into that are three different sets of flowers, so you can add or remove according to your taste, each of which can be tinted separately.

I used that versatility to pair it with this adorable gown from Little 2 Large (The Spirit Pool), complete with it's own line of flowers down the front. It's amazing how much detail has been pushed into such a tiny space, fading from a blue which almost perfectly matches my skin to bright white in the center. I also am quite fond of the neckline, a smooth curve that frames my shoulders and adds interest to the silhouette. Time for picking these things up at the Fantasy Faire is coming close to an end, so get by there as soon as you're able!

Stepping into The Spirit Pool is like stepping into a cool past made out of marble. Built along simple and neo-Classical lines, the sparsity broken up by lovely potted plants in a vivid shade of yellow-green, The Spirit Pool is a balm to souls over-wrought by the excesses and overwhelm of the Faire. Built around a central square, the covered store area gives way to an open air courtyard protected by high walls. The scale is enormous, especially when you look up to see the somber statue presiding over it all, her arms outstretched. Similar, but smaller, statues dot the walkways holding lamps aloft to guide the way from shop to shop. Water flows throughout, adding to the sense of cool calmness and drawing the eye toward the deep pool which makes up The Spirit Pool. I particularly like the effect of the long banners cutting up the smooth white with a stream of patterned blue. This is also one of the few builds with regular seating, in the form of lovely marble couches with curving arms tucked against the outside wall of the promenade.

In the heart of the sim is a more open area meant for gatherings and sun catching, framed by two teleporters which can take you into the depths of The Spirit Pool. It's a simple and sandy realm, with a few large shells and some enormous seaweed. The feet of the colossal pillars which support the heart of the sim dig deep into the sand, and scattered around them are enormous pieces of marble fallen from above. Several dance areas, one open to the surface and one tucked away, can be found if you wander around. Returning to the surface drops you in the center with a lovely view of the horizon over uneven blocks which form the backdrop for a book sprouting tentacles. In the heart of those glowing blocks is another seating area, this time arranged around a central block; I can imagine senators debating and gesticulating here, lit by the sun.

My Callista's Closet (The Spirit Pool) gown, with it's quasi-Grecian lines and thoroughly un-Grecian slits, is perfect for this formal yet cool setting. The fabric is richly patterned in gold, and I love the detailing on the shoulder brooches with their ribbon details. This is one of my favorite necklines, swooping without being too low cut with a lovely framing of my clavicle which really makes portraits perfection. It comes in standard sizes plus fitted for Belleza, Maitreya, and Slink. It also comes with a tiara I'm also wearing, a pair of Slink sandals, and some fairy wings. Taken together they're a lovely look.

My jewelry set come from Bliensen + MaiTai (The Spirit Pool), and they are really fun dragon claws which grasp around the neck and upper arm. They come sized for men and women, and since they're a single mesh peace they are a breeze to resize. They come in a ton of metallic and dark shades, and I found them a breeze to put on and really enjoyed the slightly uneven effect of the claws clenching, showing bands of skin in between their edges. I tried to match my Verocity (The Spirit Pool) trident to my jewelry and got close. This is also a single mesh piece - a trend I really appreciate since I'm smaller and rounder than average! I was able to make it small enough to fit in my hand while keeping it's existing length, which I really appreciated. The starfish and net touches are just a ton of fun as well, making this fun both as decoration and something to threaten invading forces with! This and more are available at The The Spirit Pool through tomorrow, so get your wriggle on and check them out!

Mudrana is a fascinating build at the Fantasy Faire, built in an 'S' shape which centers in front of the Frog King with the curves of enormous lotuses serving as both barrier and building. Reeds of various shades, matching lilypads, and even differently tinted water add a three tone effect while separating the build not exactly evenly. The decor here is for sale at the Dandelion Daydream Factory, and it's striking; divided into "corrupted", "Unseelie" and "Seelie", the similar shapes are remade through colors and glow to bring a different mood to their sections. My favorite touch were the frogs, however - some of them sitting, others climbing, still others peering into the depths. It was fun running across the ones with horns or wings perched on a lilypad or halfway up a stalk of cattails. The use of movement was fantastic as well - flies buzz around the head of the Frong King, tempting him to snack, and in the depths of the water you can see enormous tadpoles swimming as they waited to transform and join their parents on the surface.

For this marshy sim with it's shiny flowers I focused on shades of green with accents of pink, beginning with this amazing forest skin from .:Soul:. (Mudrana). It's a rich green on the yellow end of the spectrum, and has slightly lighter patterns worked over it in an organic pattern. It came with three appliers in addition to legacy body skins and tattoos; the appliers are divided into head, body, and tattoo and those three appliers cover just about any contingency in three simply sets. The head applier includes soul's Uni ears, Bentbox Sylvan and Faun, and Logo ears as well as Omega, Catwa, LeLutka, and Genesis Labs. The body tab covers Slink, Maitreya, Belleza, and Omega. You can also apply just the tattoo using the omega system. The final effect, combining my standard body with Slink hands is gorgeous and a lot of fun to play with when adding hair and clothing.
My dress is a really awesome design from [EvelineIntheBox] (Mudrana) colored in shades of dark gold and burnt umber. I love the subtle patterning of the skirt and how it catches the light without being overpowering or busy. This is a fitted, standard mesh which comes with a blindfold and horns as accessories, but I wanted to focus just on the dress for this look. It worked very well with my default mesh body despite my tending to have a different shape than most bloggers, and with the alpha layer it was all but flawless. The cape in the back is a nice bit of detailing and floats just enough above the back that it doesn't usually clip even in extreme poses. I especially liked how simple and chic it was, and how well it worked with armor detailing I added from another set. The gleam of materials was also quite nice, especially since I was going for a shiny effect instead of a matte one; this dress worked perfectly next to shimmering lilypads and the way the lilies caught the light.
Zombie Suicide (Mudrana) provided my eyes and my necklace. The eyes are featureless except for some soft shading and can be worn as textures, via mesh eyeballs which come with a texture change HUD, or applied to other heads via the Omega system. There are twelve color options and you can color each eye separately, which seems like a lot of fun for a subtle but striking effect! The necklace also comes with a texture changing HUD, this time offering up sixteen options, some of them a single shade while others offer ombres like the green/pink one I'm wearing. I liked having the option of adding a pop of pink to my otherwise marshy look, and having these small flashes of pink were really fun without being overpowering. You can find all these things and more at Mudrana through the end of the Faire tomorrow.

Opal's Flight is a sea of whites and cream with the flash of glinting bright creatures strewn throughout, much like the hues of a milky quartz in the sun. Like last year's Haveit Neox and Lilia Artis build, it has an organic and quirky design - even the whites mottled with texture - and there's a sense of movement even in the still pieces. There are moments both grand and small - one of my favorite details was in the meeting of a metal flamingo from Fallen Sands with a Neoxian Paper Goose, complete with a gear gift. Its a subtle but endearing touch, bridging the edges of the disparate Fairelands with the shade whimsy of the Faire itself. What was most transfixing, however, were the leaping fish and cetatean riding octopi, rendered in gorgeous hues of bright purple, warm orange, and lime green. They leap among the relics of enormous coral, many of their leaping speeds sufficiently off from each other so that the tableau is ever-changing and unpredictable. Capturing the full effect is impossible in still photography, but I had fun exploring the angles of various leaping things as they moved in and out of view at a dreamlike pace.

Opal Flight is the Art and Entertainment sim, so it has to make spaces for the various dramatic events and for seating the crowds who want to enjoy, and this year's solution was incredibly clever and quite beautiful: a wall of vines whose leaves support tiny orange pillows for each visitor to enjoy. At first I thought they were giant orchids or some sort of trumpet flower, but I was delighted when I realized their actual purpose. I love the use of color here on the surface - slight but brilliant so that it makes the white seem that much more brilliant. It also makes the contrast between the surface, mostly bleached pale, and the vivid depths that much more impressive. The cacophony of hues in the parade from last year has been revisited in brightly colored fish with wide stripes of white. They're pulling carts of glowing eggs past the impatiently waiting, semi-translucent centaurs guarding the heart of the sim to a hot pink swirl of fish and mermaids. In the back of the cave is a gift from Haveit Neox, so it's definitely worth exploring the whole underwater realm!

One of the tricks to balancing a busy, artistic sim is a simple, artistic look in complementary hues, and so I began with this gown from Enrapturing Elegance couture (Fallen Sands). It's a single size, so try the demo if you're unsure, and comes with flowers for your hair, a set of patterned wings, and some flexible flow for the back - but I simplified it down to just the gown with it's striking neckpiece. The silhouette is particularly fine, with a broad and sweeping hemp and slight train which gives it a sense of drama. I particularly like the texturing, am ombre of blueish purples with a delicate pattern that almost looked like batik.

I couldn't resist adding the top hat from Haveit Neox, one of a slew of gacha-gainable hats sold in Opal Flight and Kakushi Pasu. There is one for most of the sims in the Fairelands, plus one which allows you to play the Fantasy Faire Radio, plus several goofy additions from some of the mainstays of the Faire. Opal's flight has three in the offing, of which I landed two (If you have Opal Flight's Wizard hat or Dawn's Promise - call me!), and each of them take different elements and textures from the build to make something truly fun and memorable as an inexpensive keepsake.

A short while after this post went up, Haveit Neox contacted me to credit Lilia Artis with the ideas behind the surface build. I'm including his specific comments about how much he valued working with her, and what specific ideas were hers.

"I wanted to let you know that most of the sea level is due to Lilia Artis' plans. She collaborated with me again this year. It was her idea to have the white opal color above the ocean, and to have the seating for the stage a collection of giant vines. It was her story, so I enjoyed following her lead. We both worked pretty much equally on the project so it's difficult to know who did what... which I really like." -Haveit Neox

Fallen Sands is a desert realm with a metallic edge and a slew of mechanical creatures lurking among the cacti. I tinted the water green, like the heavy water found in other deserts, and set off to explore the onion towers and lead glass. Overhead, enormous iron flamingos fly, casting long shadows on the ground. The buildings are high and slightly angled, with pure glass tower tops on each corner. Those who went before have left behind only their skeletons, engaged in a wide variety of unexpected activities! My favorite were the elephants, though - either blowing water into the air to cool passersby, or cooling themselves in the dense water at the heart of the sim.
My wings, from Spider Productions (Fallen Sands), are enormous and move both via an included HUD and flapping when I fly, which gave me a lot of photography options! The wings themselves aren't editable, but there is a HUD which allows for individual tinting of several layers of feathers, front and back. You can buy the colors separately, either in sets of hues or as a fatpack. The wings also come with an AO which can be turned on and off - and it's quite a nice one! One final touch - three different sizes! One of my laments is not having wings large enough to be plausible; the large version of these wings almost accomplish that! As a final touch, there are several gestures included to trigger different animations. All in all, if you want angel wings with a lot of variety, this is an excellent place to start.

My outfit from Poet’s Heart (Fallen Sands) caught my attention as soon as I realized it was colorful insect themed dresses. I'm wearing the Flower Beetle one - an ombre of purples, pinks, and teal - but there is everything from a rich black to a bright red! They're to be worn with the Maitreya body, so don't include an alpha layer. It also comes with wings, insect wings this time with moving or static options, and has a distinct pixie style. I'd love to see these sized for petites, too; they'd really be charming! The hat, complete with antenna and eyes, are included as are the boots with their fluffy leg warmers. I may be two limbs short and entirely lacking in exo-skeleton, but I'm definitely the cutest beetle around!

The final, not at all insectoid touch is this tattoo from Stix (Fallen Sands), which may be returning when I'm getting in touch with my scaley roots. It's a fun addition and comes with appliers for omega - which means I was able to accomplish this seemless flow from my Maitreya body to my Slink hands. The nice thing is, it offers a variety of tint options from 25% to 100%, and it covers the whole body including adorable freckles in rainbow for the face. This is definitely moving into my mermaid folder to stay! Swing by Fallen Sands soon to check out everything available under the sun, and a few things in the shade!

The transition between Kakushi Pasu and San Mora is abrupt and startling. On one side: calm and natural glory. On the other: post-modern destruction decorated with trash bags. Death Row Designs always does something post-apocalyptic (whether modern of medieval) and San Mora is an exemplar of the style. You can pick up a free gas mask from DRD (San Mora) at the entrance, and I recommend doing so.... just in case. Much of what you can purchase here is similarly modern and dystopic - and it's a good reminder, to me in particular, of what an enormous umbrella Fantasy is! I'm more of a sparkles and sunshine kind of girl, but the dark and rusted fantasies other people create are no less valid even if they aren't candy colored. Fantasy Faire always challenges me to get out of my preferred areas and into something different, and I'm deeply grateful for the yearly wake-up call.

For my outfit I went full on native, beginning with this amazing Anachron (San Mora) armor. The arms, top, pants, and boots are all separate, so I was able to mix and match sizes (medium top, small bottom, extra large arms) to fit my basic mesh. I really appreciated this a lot; since I'm an hourglass instead of a pear in world, I often end up having to add an enormous bottom just to fit my enormous top! I'm wearing the rusty Fortress color but there are a bunch more, and they can be mixed and matched with ease. The whole set is available in standard sizes with alpha layers. It's well rigged, and once I found the proper sizes there was no clipping. The detailing is particularly fine, from the darker leather-like scale armor effect to the rivets on the metal pieces. For verisimilitude, this could be placed over a fabric bodysuit texture, but I went with bare skin to add to the sense that this has been cobbled together from whatever could be found.

On top of the hips I added a secondary belt from The Forge (San Mora). It's intricately put together, which makes adjusting it a little more challenging, but I was able to fit it over my armor without too much difficulty. I love how it just blends in, seeming as if it was part of the Anachron set while adding dimension and a place to keep my stuff! I think my favorite detail is the fringe on the edge, though; I will always love fringe.

For creep factor I added NAMINOKE's (San Mora) giant, alien-looking blooms with their finger-like roots. These come attached to just about every part of you body, but I kept the bare skin sections only and shifted them around a little. Since each flower is a single mesh piece, resizing them to fit the available area is a breeze. The effect of even a few of them is eerie and disturbing - exactly what I was aiming for! Who knows whether these are just parasitic additions, or some sort of invading species.

Poseidon (San Mora) brought me all of my poses, and I splurged for the fatpack of everything because these are some truly stellar and unusual poses, each of which come with appropriate props. I ended up using the Alchemist, Amazon and Witch Hunter, but there are also Monk, Shadow Dancer, and Sword Mage sets. Each pose is dynamic and unusual, several of them mid-action poses. I had a lot of fun playing with angles and shadows, building a visual story of a woman trying to survive in a poinsoned city. San Mora has an astonishing array of nooks and crannies to explore, and thankfully the tech to transfer smell over the internet isn't yet possible, so come by and explore this terrifying dystopian fantasy before it all ends on May 4th.

I have loved Kakushi Pasu since I watched it slowly rez around me while listening to Seanan McGuire answer questions. Built like a Japanese Tea House, the open wooden walkways surround a rocky core surrounded by bamboo plants, maple trees, and enormous lotus blossoms. It is at once architectural and natural, the sharp lines of dark wood cutting pleasantly through the softer curves of plants and water. The shadows of bamboo leaves is particularly striking, especially complementing the dark red of the maple. The square shape of the walkways, with their small buildings cropping up here and there, invites contemplation of the floating lanterns which never stop moving. There are two notable areas - one an open air meeting room with a stage for readers and stumps for listeners, and the other a tall cliff where the Fantasy Faire Dragon has moored himself and his ship.

Since Kakushi Pasu is the Literary Festival sim, there is little in the way of clothing there. In the dance area is a glorious Hat Gacha Vendor, which dispenses mini-versions of the Fantasy Faire sims for your head, along with a vendor for an adorable deer avatar you might have seen tromping around. It's fun to have a mix of sims for shopping and sims for entertainment, and I've loved watching the number of sims increase even while lamenting that our time in the Fairelands remains as fleeting as ever. Luckily, this year the closing has been pushed back to the fourth of May, so we have a little longer to linger and indulge.

I ended up picking through my inventory for items from other sims which I thought I might not get to there: for example, this lovely gown from Silvan Moon Designs (The Spirit Pool). It's made for Belleza, Maitreya, and Slink as well as having the full complement of fitted sizes for the standard mesh body, and alpha layers to match. The gown, overskirt, belt and sleeves are all separate, which means you can mix and match between colors of the gown or simplify it down if you wish. The colors are soft but rich, and I especially like how the blue and gold contrasts on the Lobelia gown in particular. The long train gets a little crumpled in some poses, but the overall rigging and movement is lovely (especially on the arms - virtually no clipping!) and I adore the unusual curve of the bodice and the uneven curl of the overskirt.

I paired the gown with a fun crown in an older style from Bliensen + MaiTai (The Spirit Pool). I love her hats, and his one was no exception. The flatness of this hat made it relatively easy to find a hairstyle which worked with it - reprising an old favorite from Doe right now, with it's fantastic whorls and my favorite ombre textures on the grid - tuckign the bottom edge between the back of the bangs and the beginning of the updo. The gems on front are perfectly angled to go over a set of low bangs, adding to their versatility. The fabric of the crown is changeable via a HUD. I remain grateful that Plurabella makes her items editable, meaning I was able to set the fabric to white using the HUD and then tint it to match the unusual shade of my gown; I can't say enough about how valuable it is to have tintable accessories in a world of gorgeous but unusual colors!

I wanted a crystal skin to go with crystal hair and contrast with my sedately hued gown, and Fallen Gods (The Rose) came through for me again with a brand new Fairelands release. It comes with several appliers (Omega, Slink, Soul Uniear), an outfit, wings, hair, eyes, and lashes. I particularly like the coil of crystal butterflies which are included in the outfit - very striking. There are a number of ALia's skins which will be vanishing with the Fairelands, so make sure to check out his store while we can still cross the rainbow bridge to a land built out of the dreams of roses in Venice.

Egregore is a world of riotous colors which becomes almost completely overwhelming in daylight, and only slightly less riotous under the glow of the moon. This is a child's world, complete with enormous doll houses open in the side or tilted slightly so you can sneak inside to pick up the many delights of the Fantasy Faire. Jelly beans form the paths, pointing the way between stores and through the hiding spots and dance grounds of dolls and toy ponies. The centerpiece is a giant mannequin setting up her own enormous dollhouse, her feet the size of two Faireland citizens put together.

Elsewhere are small tableaus of toys lit by shimmering balls of light that swirl and change color. One is the circle of unicorns which has shown up in several Epic Toy Factory builds; in the center is a lovely altar of sorts around a family of unicorns, and there are even a few fairies going for a ride! Another circle of toys is a train track with a Halloween vibe, complete with pumpkin carriages which would horrify any self-respecting Cinderella. There's even a creepy clown, in a nod to Anansi, waiting to give you a ride.

I'm dressed up in things you can find in Egregore, and I really enjoy the contrast between ultra-sleek woman of the evening, and the childhood cacophony she exists within. The dress is from Moonlitecat Creations and comes with the gown, necklace, and shoes. There are a ton of options, including Belleza, Maitreya, and Slink along with fitmesh for the standard body. In deference to arachnophobes, the dress comes with spidery and non-spidery options. As an added bonus, my eyes are as full of webs as my Deviance wings - a good touch for arachnophiles everywhere! It's an easy fit and the fabric has lovely shine and a ton of subtle hues. There's a chain detail for the low back, and the slit on one side will show everything but your assets.

Speaking of assets, my skin is a limited edition based on the sim itself - Egregore - from Nephilim. It's an awesome mix of purples with hints of pink and blue, which catches the light in fantastic ways. It has almost every applier in the bunch for heads (Akeruka, Altamura, Catwa, Eve, LAQ, LeLutka), full bodies (Altamura, Belleza, Eve, Slink, Maitreya, Omega, SN Venus, and Tonic) as well as textures for the legacy body. It was only missing an applier for my .:Soul:. ears, so I had to tint as closely as I could! The body comes with and without brows, and with regular, cleavage, and corset texturing. There are several other skins available, but this was my favorite by far; I love eerie hues.

The final touch is my magatama earrings from Void Heart. It's in the purple which marks the faire itself, and is a lot of fun to show off with a swirling hairstyle. This and a whole lot more are available for those who stray back into their childhood and end up exploring Egregore.

Centering on an enormous clown head, the carnival set up in Anansi has many attractions and even more contrasts. The landscape itself is sweet, pastoral, even medieval - a jackrabbit pauses to watch passers by in a field of gently drying grass; a bridge made of woven logs offers passage over a shallow waterfall; ferns and mossy rocks frame a loose stone pathway up the hill - and hovering over it is the mastermind clown with his army of eight-legged attractions and their flying ant attendants. His rictus of a smile is only visible when you crest the hill, and he hangs over the bay like a malevolent but cheerful majordomo. His minions dot the landscape, all but lost against the landscape, and now and then a crowd gathers at the main stage to play out the next part of the NeoVictoria Storyline.

There are fewer stores in Anansi than in other sims, so the extra stages have been turned into the playthings of dreams - the roofs of a city overtaken by mist and a flying bed; orbs of glowing ideas; incongruous rainbow unicorns engaged in farming; a world entirely dominated by cats. Even some of the stores themselves sink into the dream of an enormous travelling carnival, reproducing their own miniature worlds within the confines of a circus car. At the last car before Egregore you'll find some free caravans for continuing on your way, and an invitation to sit and dream a while in this candy colored world with it's questionable core. It's a simple but lovely gift from S&S Sculpties.

As is my pattern, I dressed up in Anansi clothing while photographing Anansi itself. My dress is a two piece from Moon & Back (Anansi), which meant I could pair a different shade of the top and bottom to create a more interesting look. You could also pair one half with another mesh piece that stopped at the same point, though that's riskier! The texturing is quite good, with a subtle glittery effect that's lovely. I particularly like how the skirt is built, though, with two layers - one sheer and one not - which allows for a lot of variation and a good sense of depth. In some of my pictures you can see the fade between just the sheer and the sheer over the solid skirt and I really enjoy the effect it has.

The incredible mother of pearl headdress I'm wearing is from Apparition (Anansi) and it is a striking addition to any ensemble. The headdress can be worn low on the forehead, as I am, with an appropriate hairstyle (I paired it with a fantastic new hair from Discord Designs, a semi-hawk which doesn't threaten to cut into the headdress' curving sides), or placed higher onto a hairstyle which is more piled up. Since it's modify-ok, you can also play with the levels of glow you want from the curving ends as well as resize and move it to make a stunning facinator that would turn every head in the ton. The texturing is gorgeous; I've always had a soft spot for mother-of-pearl and the whorls of the texture work very well with the more angular shape of the full shell. The angler-fish style tentacles make it a challenge to photograph, but also add to the effectiveness of the whole piece.

I finished off my fingertips with one of the polishes from The Purple Puffin (Anansi), a soft gold which complemented my ensemble without being overpowering. It's one of nine shades on the HUD, and there are three HUDs for sale with different emphases. All of these and much, much more are available at the Anansi sim in the Fantasy Faire for it's duration!

Main Quest >> Locate the Bard Queen in Morbus

This is a lot easier than one might expect - no caves or going very far; the Bard Queen is just inside the border. Walk up, click on her, and another video will start - again, there are links to YouTube if it doesn't load in world. She doesn't look or feel well, but she can make the potion to help herself at the top of the tower if we clear the way for her. She even calls Farion brave - which embarrasses him! And now it's on to the puzzle-solving half of the Quest - this time getting the Bard Queen where she needs to go!
Farion is no help here. Touch him and he just complains to you! The trick is to follow the dragon bones instead of the river, and look for something that looks out of place compared to the rest. And note I pluralized bones - there are two sets, so if you find the second one, you're on the right track. You might have seen some weird shaped things on your way here. Yeah. Them. This time don't avoid the brambles - they're phantom anyway - and retrace your steps before heading wider. Luckily, all of the key pieces are on this side of the river, so it cuts down the hunting area. Also, don't go into any triangular caves you might find - you'll get stuck in the ground!!
Finding the last key triggers a puzzle minigame to put the lock back together - and I love this move from having the minigames in world to in the HUD. In world offers more verisimilitude, yes, but it caused a ton of log-jams in the past, and some real frustration on the parts of players. Having it in the HUD keeps the interactive game aspects while ending the fight for limited resources. Having in-world effects overlap also helps, and means we all get the relish each others' successes!
Grinding things up happens first, and if you try to grind up the wrong thing...

You hear a dry chuckle, and something whispers 'Really?' or Maybe in a different order. of A dry, ghostly voice says, 'Obviously, not a professional...'

This makes it a series of trial and errors which isn't difficult at all. You can't make an error in this case, and the abbreviated recipe can give you some guidance.

Farion: Sneaky lot, alchemists? Now, what do we do about the rest? The spell book here shows a flame, then a rainbow that says "Violet, Indigo." Wazzat, eh? Then... four arrows to the left?... a couple mushrooms... and a flame again?

Once you've emptied your horns and stirred, Farion steps in again.

Farion: Okay, here go the mushrooms into the pot... So much trouble to get, don't want to forget these! And... done! Seriously, you'd never 'ave pulled this off without me. Right, then - continue!

There are a few more steps - Farion gave the clues above, and remember you can turn the flames on and off! Once you complete it to the dry, ghostly voice's satisfaction you get a triumphant chime and the potion is done!

Farion: And there we go - easy as that, we've save the Fairelands. Nice one, hero! Now, the boss said there was a portal at the top of this here tower that she'd use to get us all home, so let's get out of here before something goes wrong.

Bard Queen: See if you can interrupt its roar so my song can get through!

HINT

Cast three spells to distract the beast and help the Bard Queen strike it down

Each spell is composed of 3 steps:

1. Summon a helpful entity

2. Praise the entity and/or describe the spell type

3. Describe the spell's purpose

The wrong answer will send you flying and have Farion chiding you; I suffer, so you don't have to!

Farion: Come on! What was that? - Quick, let's return and start over - we don't have much time left!

Farion: I fail to see the purpose of that spell... We should return and start all over...

Farion: Please! Concentrate! Try to use an actually efficient spell next time!

Each "loss" is a reset and you have to do three attacks again, so don't
be surprised by that. Also, you can use the extra clues floating over
the monster's head; they're quite helpful. You're invoking three different gods to do three different effects, then have the Bard Queen attack; if you chose to do nothing, literally nothing happens, so make each spell count!
Defeating the monster starts another cut scene with you waking up in bed with Farion and the Bard Queen - with those helpful YouTube links for people who are lagging in world.

In the scene you "wake up" with the Bard Queen looking a bet better, Fairon decides to stay on as your companion for a while, and you're directed to the treasure room.

I loved the emphasis on how the Bard Queen saved herself with our assistance, instead of us saving her. That really reinforced the idea that we defeat The Unweaver together, and that the person being attacked by the Unweaver is an active participant in defeating it. For people who have done these quests as long as I have, this is particularly powerful since the Bard Queen was under attack this time. She's been a constant in every quest, usually presented as an implacable force for goodness and light without any weaknesses, so having her be targeted by the Unweaver made it really personal.

I do like the presents, of course, but it's the story and games which bring me back to the Fantasy Faire Quest year after year. I hope you enjoyed taking this journey along with me, and I'll see you next faire!!
You can purchase the HUD for the game at the landing point of every sim; there's a deluxe version which comes with an outfit (350$L) and a simple version which comes with just the HUD (250$L). The deluxe version comes with instructions on how to Redeem the included gift card are included. The gift card itself is no-copy, so you have to rez the box in world in order to remove it. When you wear it, it will direct you to teleport to Fairelands Junction, where the quest begins.

A couple of notes - one, you can save the game manually using the "setup" button, and I recommend you do so. Two, it's worth it to drop your graphics down quite a bit; the Fairelands are full of people, and that can slow you down significantly. Thirdly, the hints really do help - read them a couple of times and they should do well by you.

You'll land at the main drop spot, without a Farion in sight. Thankfully he's nearby - face away from the room with the sim teleports and you can see him on a white bridge. He's a lot smaller than you might be expecting, so when you get to the signpost, look up! When you click on Farion, a video will load on your screen with some additional links to the YouTube Source of it. Farion will fill you in on what has been going on with the Bard Queen lately, and it's not looking quite as good as it could be. She's been gone for a couple of days, and Farion and 'the lads' need help to find the ingredients for a special potion to give her a pick-me-up.
Secondary Quest >> Find all the chests hidden in the Fairelands
If
you've already gone around the Fairlands a little, you might have
already seen these dotting the countryside. They're in different places
from the items you'll be looking for on the main quest, but they aren't
difficult to find. Finding or not finding them doesn't affect the quest
overall, but each has an exclusive gift available only through the
chest, so it's definitely worth checking them out! I found it worked
best to do both hunts simultaneously; Farion responds differently
depending on whether you find the chest or the ingredient first. Guess
which is which!

Farion: You found it - not bad, not bad. Hey, listen - if you haven't
found the hidden treasure in this land yet, this is a good opportunity
to do it - thought, you can perfectly do it later...

Farion: Those are some good hunting skills

potion... you know, LIKE YOU PROMISED? Or, just continue treasure
hunting... it's not like the world may end, IS IT?

Main Quest >> Visit Barnabas at Kakushi Pasu
Thankfully, every game HUD has a teleport list so going from sim to sim is a lot easier than it might otherwise be.Use this to head over to Kakushi Pasu and be careful to not fall off the wall! When you click on Farion he'll give you a hint - and this is something that will be consistent throughout the quest.

Farion: "Right! We need to find Barnabas! He'll probably be somewhere resting against a tree, the lazy blighter - and staring at the floating lanterns, all mazed, Can't blame the fella, they shine so bright. But... shh now, let's sneak behind the dragon's back, I sort of, might possibly, maybe owe him money. Let's stay on the side of town that he doesn't watch, right?"

Farion: What? No, it's not that! I mean, I don't know what... Anyway, crashing on: me and my mate here are looking to make up a batch of the old Mage's Rvivifier and I figured you'd be just the chap to ask about it.

Barnabas: And just what would you be wanting with that, young Farion, hmm? Funny that you should ask me about it in the same week as the Bard Queen did, I'd say. Needs a hand, does she?

Farion: No, not at all. It's just a bit of, um, academic curiosity, innit? You keep saying I should pay more attention to this stuff, and since this nice adventurer asked me about it I thought I'd tag along - y'know, observe a bit...

Barnabas: Is that so? Well I know you, Farion Sunbreeze, and if there's a chance for learning the only place I'd be likely to see you doing it is in the taverns. Something's up and no mistake, but since she asked before you I'll help... If you're going to make Bartleman's Mage Revivifier you'll need ... various ingredients: the herbs, the gems, the cordials, and the grains. Mix them in an alchemist's cauldron and you'll have your potion.

Farion: Easy! So... where do we get all that, then?

You think:
>> "Will they ever stop talking?"

>> "Better pay attention to what they're saying..."

Barnabas: You go out and gather them, idiot!

Farion: Yeah, yeah, why doesn't that surprise me? Look, that's a lot of stuff, mate. You haven't got a list or something, have you?

Barnabas: That's what I meant about rotting your brain, young pixie. Here you are, my notes on what to get and how to out it all together. At least try and pay attention, would you?

Farion: Alright, fine, we'll get looking. Honestly, with all the magic around here you'd think we could have some kind of delivery service or something.

Barnabas: And if you ever get off your idle behind and decide to make something of yourself, there's a golden opportunity for you! Now go and get on with it: she didn't look well, you know.

Farion: I don't know what you're talking about.

Barnabas: You always were a rotten liar, young pixie, Go on, be off with the pair of you!

Once Barnabas is done talking you can close the chat bar and a list of ingredients will be added to your HUD. I've rearranged them so that you can walk the circuit starting at Faireland Junction (for the first chest), but you can also use the HUD to teleport from sim to sim and look for each one - up to you!

If you click on the name of each item, Farion gives you some background on each ingredient. Each name and sim will go paler as you pick up the items, so it's easy to see what you've accomplished and what you haven't. Click on the small pink arrow at the bottom of the sheet for a list of just the sims. Clicking each sim name will trigger Farion giving you a second hint, this time for the chest. Again, as you find each chest they go pale, and Farion will either chide you from getting distracted from your Quest or impatiently praise you depending on whether you find the ingredient or the chest first.

Fantasy Faire 2017 is coming soon! A short while ago the themes for ten worlds were announced, and this seemed a good time to reflect back on the past creations of some of the people making their windows into the infinite this year.

I wanted to start with Elicio Ember's Cerridwen's Cauldron. Although Ember said he had to step back from creating a sim this year, he's been a staple of years past and he makes amazing windows into fantastic realms. His worlds are always marked by brilliant colors, glimmering patterns in cut glass, striking architecture, great heights and depths, and wild plants which defy gravity. His Sea of Mer (see the end) was the first Fantasy Faire sim I ever took pictures of and blogged about, and it will always hold a special place in my heart due to that.

What's most fascinating, looking back, is seeing the jump in skill and technology from year to year. I've become so much more sophisticated, and so has the faire itself.

Otherworld

In 2016 Ember made a world wrapped around the bones of an enormous dragon; a world of mushrooms, enormous crystals, and stories. Otherworld was the basis of the Literature Side of the Fantasy Faire, where writers began and ended their days. This year the Literary Fest has Seanan McGuire as a headliner, and will be reprising their tours and story-centered events with new times - noon, 5PM, and 8PM. The events of the Faire are so vast that I despair of people knowing about them all - but I sincerely hope more people learn about the Literary end of things this year!

The Faerie Court

In 2014, Elicio Ember created a world to celebrate the mingling of Seelie and Unseelie fae. Half of the sim reflected the bright, light, summer spirit of the fae, while the other half reflected the shadowy, dark, winter phase. The tree where they meet is hug with lamps from both courts in a rare sign of solidarity, and I love their effect in the hazy air of twilight.

Titan's Hollow

Titan's Hollow || Flickr Album

2013 brought about an amazing collection of floating buildings in the middle of craggy walls. Titan's Hollow was filled with the unearthly glow of lasers and glass above depths filled with glowing orchids. The most striking part of this build was the clarity of the pathways allowing for an unimpeded view down into the heart of the hollow itself.

Ruins of Nu Orne

Ruins of Nu Orne || Flickr Album

In 2012 Ember created two builds, one mainly on the surface with a winding path up into a mountain and the second half split between the surface and underwater. The Ruins of Nu Orne were initially deceptively simple; it wasn't until I returned a second time that I realized there was a winding path up to an abandoned temple made of much the same stuff as the surface stores.

Siren's Secret

Siren's Secret || Flickr Album

Siren's Secret was Ember's second realm in 2012, and it operated on two levels - above and below the waters. This led to a very fun mermaid sections under the waves, where the discerning mer-creature could pick up anything they might want or need. It was also the spiritual continuation of the Sea of Mer from 2011, using similar colors and textures for the buildings and having the same half above, half below structure. I'm inordinately fond of builds which do this without making me lost, and Ember is a master of straightforwardly complicated pathways.

Exotic Worlds

Exotic Worlds || Flickr Album 1 || Flickr Album 2

2011's Exotic Worlds was a wild realm of oversized flowers tucked among eerie ruins which is reminiscent of ancient lands dominated by enormous animals. I particularly liked the mushrooms, large enough to hop up as one attempts to climb to see above the foliage.

Sea of Mer

Sea of Mer, also built in 2011, was where I started with the Fantasy Faire. It was a dreamy location marked by giant jellyfish and clams large enough to swallow a half dozen people with a single gulp. There are hints of the eventual powerful architectural events even under the waves. Ember's style of bright plants and animals, heavily textured pillars and pathways, and sense of motion remains consistent even while the types of worlds drastically change from year to year, or even within a single faire. It's this kind of variety which makes the Fantasy Fare as wonderful and exciting as it is, and which brings me back year after year.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02619018164909616871noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1108779732193340014.post-8564473226545153152017-03-31T00:22:00.000-07:002017-03-31T00:22:01.416-07:00Genre: Victorian Privacy

Ember's Cauldron is still going on, a grid-wide shopping experience to support Elicio Ember and his father. I'm using things you can get at three different stores - my skin and clothing from Fallen Gods, my pendant from Touryuumon, and the garden I'm flying over from Simply Shelby.

Sidera Psy Galaxy had been a limited release item from Fallen Gods, but he's dusted it out along with Cosmic Snake, another limited release skin, and hug them up with a gorgeous dress he made in collaboration with Faida. Tons of appliers are included, and the skins themselves are thoroughly gorgeous; fit for gods and goddesses. In addition, this purple version of Faida & Fallen Gods's Whistles outfit is brand new and exclusive to this event; you can get other colors without the donation aspect from Faida's main store.

Around my neck is a lovely heart and dragon pendant from Touryuumon which you can pick up at their store. It fits mesh bodies particularly well, with a good curve along the breastbone.

The garden from Simply Shelby started quite small but is fully editable, so I was able to increase it to the size of a small house and get a closer look at the butterfly details. The sign is separate, so you can either have a faerie free spot of spring, or invite the fae to invade for their moon-lit revels. I was glad they were separate so I could add the sign at a rakish tilt.

All of these are available for another few weeks at each store's location, where you can also donate directly to Elicio Ember. And don't forget, Cerridwen's Cauldron, his store, has a plethora of fantastical items to add to your home.

Sn@tch is currently releasing one of her seasonal grab bags, with twenty-one outfit bits available in shades of pink, purple, and blue. There's a little bit of everything, from this ultra-brief look to some longer dresses suitable for a classy garden party. There are some new lucky boards nearby as well, and even some riot vendors ready for a sudden rush. The view is misty and gorgeous, and it's a lovely way to spend a few hours fishing up bags for March parties.

7Seas Fishing is extremely newbie friendly - the basic fishing rod costs 100$L and
you can catch everything at Sn@tch
with it. The fish themselves are wearable - Sainmhiniu always wears a
few of my favorites - and spin in circles around the wearer. If you pay
extra for bait you can level up and pick up Rare, Ultra-rare, and
Super-ultra-rare fish as well. Setting Sainmhiniu out to fish is always
one of my pleasures, and I love seeing the sheer variety that Sn@tch provides.
We're almost a week into the Ember's Cauldron event to support Elicio Ember and his father as the latter fights his way back from a stroke. Each store is hosting their item and a donation cauldron, and the bloggers involved are featuring many of Ember's gorgeous flowers and phatasmagoria for sale in his store, Cerridwen's Cauldron. There's a HUD available for easy transportation, or you can follow one of the handy links below in my alphabetical list. I've also included an image of what the area tends to look like in each of the stores along with a picture of the HUD, but it's pretty easy to find!

Elicio Ember, the creator of Cerridwen's Cauldron, needs our help. His father had a stroke and needs expensive treatment but doesn't have insurance to cover it - and this is where we can come in! Two events are being staged to raise money for Ember and his father; Ember's Cauldron from March 15th to April 16th, and Filling the Cauldron from April 1st to April 9th.There is also a GoFundMe being run by a friend of his.

I don't know Ember personally, but I remember his builds from the Fantasy Faire fondly and one of his color-changing flowers is a centerpiece to my home. I can't imagine what he's going through, or how his father is struggling, but my heart goes out to them both. I hope that together we can support Ember and his father to ensure he has the best possible care.

Valkyrie are the agents of the gods, flying over conflicts to pluck the Heroic Dead and bring them to the Halls where they will pass their days practicing and carousing in preparation for the End of the World. Foster Daughters of the One Eyed God, even as the Heroic Dead are foster sons, they serve and seek and weave in a world build by blood and wisdom. Associated with ravens and swans, Valkyrie are often depicted with winged cloaks or riding flying horses.

My Valkyrie wings are animated and, tragically, a gacha prize. Lassitude & Ennui are selling these amazing Bento-animated wings at the Gacha Garden, and the black and gold I'm showing off are one of the two rares. I managed to snag the rares along with almost all of the commons (if you have an extra blue - call me!) and have been enjoying them ever since. The animation comes in fast or slow varieties and the wing HUD also allows for posing the wings statically to make one's pictures more dramatic. As a wing aficionado, I'm smitten; the quality of the feathers and wing placement is Lassitude & Ennui's usual perfection, and the only sadness is that since they're rigged, they can't be resized. I'd love these in a variety of sizes and with more colors, and I sincerely hope this isn't Lassitude & Ennui's last foray into animal additions.

Starting out my focus on the variety of items available from Genre for their Viking event is this rezzable prop from Nacht featuring three swords point down into a patch of dark ground. It's based on the Sverd i fjell of Norway, commemorating the battle which unified all of Norway into a single country under the rule of Harald Fairhair. The in-world swords are as black as the bronze ones in Norway but lack some of the pitting cause by water and weather. Sverd i fjell rezzed quite large, but the mesh is resizable and the land impact drops quickly; I had trouble at first finding the bounding box, but if you keep zooming out it will show up. Since it's editable, I admit to some temptation of trying different textures on it; one of the advantages of Second Life is that we can take something quite realistic and elevate it to the fantastic, and I'd love to see what the swords would look like made of glass, or gold, or the hearts and hopes of the Norse people.

While I was off the grid, Sn@tch decided to start making hair - and it's a ton of fun. Inge is a charming updo with two long braids, and an additional, optional comb for decoration. There are standard and large options, and the fit was good except for where it overlapped slightly with my ears, a common issue when one has ears as enormous as mine! I especially appreciate the gentle curve of the braids over the shoulder, though; they move well despite being a tricky style, and the realism is really top notch. Both the hair and comb are color change via separate HUDs; the comb has ten options and is the same while the hair comes in five types with fourteen textures each. My only texture complaint is the grievous lack of a rainbow ombre - I weep that I can't have brilliant rainbow braids like any good Valkyrie should!

This +XAnSA+ collar would work well in overlapping communities, like Celtic inspired communities or Gor. I love how customization it is via the HUD - there are five elements which can be shifted between five options along with options for posing yourself and increasing the size of it along different axis. It's also editable, meaning one could add to the variety using the greyscale as a base for individual tinting. It came linked to the chest, but I found re-setting it to the neck meant it moved better with my body; I recommend playing around with it to see what works for you.

I paired the more foreign +XAnSA+ collar with a more traditional set of paired brooches from Spyralle. Often used to hold a shawl over the shoulders or a kirtle over a dress, the double brooches were one way women had to show off their wealth and to keep small items handy. Spyralle's shield brooches come in gold and silver, and have delicately rendered beads hanging between them. The shields themselves are decorated with brightly colored stones, and there are hints of Spyralle's usual fractal ways in the center bead, which has a spiral worked into it. The effect is bright, colorful, and perfect for any Viking's party frock.

Inspired by the angular shapes of Norse Runes, Dark Passions offer up twelve styles using doubled Elhas to increase protection and make a striking pattern. The texture is wood-like with simple shades of brown and white predominating with a few striking flashes of the teal I'm showing here, or an equally vibrant red.

All of the poses I used were from *Eternal Dream*, known for their fun combinations of action poses and accessories - usually weapons. Pose and item alike are high quality, with no clipping or distorted joints despite some unusual stances. The Shieldmaiden set comes with a sword and shield; the decoration of the shield matching my Dark Passions nails in design and shade, but I focused on holding the sword and giving a slimmer silhouette. There is some unexpected back flex to some of the stances, but others have a great deal of direction and power.
Senzafine does some amazing textures for her outfits, and this two layered dress and kirtle are no different. She's kept most of the shades muted and worn, and I couldn't resist showcasing the Viking's love of blue and red, especially paired together! Most of the colors would work well together, whether you aim for something coordinated or contrasting, though the kirtle tends to be a little brighter than the softer shaded dress. The knotted decoration is consistently that shade of off-white and it either exists as a soft accent to similarly soft shades, or a clear thread of brightness through otherwise vibrant colors. Although they are packaged separately, they really work best in concert with each other.

The final touch is a set of wrapped boots from Sweet Lies Designs, shown here in a rich blue leather. Available in six colors total, the design of the boots is four tabs held in place by cork or wood buttons with a similarly hued sole. There's a subtle pattern on each of the straps which shows up best on the white version, and I like how it looks as if the leather's been embossed but not otherwise decorated. They fit easily out of the box - I simply took off my shoes and they took over at the ankle - but also include an alpha layer. They're rigged, so you don't have to worry about placing them, and yet modify-ok in case you need an unusual shade. I love the growing trend of clothing being modify-ok; I sometimes want to accomplish some oddly colored ends, and being able to tint quality items to match is a blessing.
