ICHP De La Soul Petites

Locked in the Crystal Mines

I have been sitting on this for a while, but one of my favorite stores of all time, as well as a dear friend, finally got accepted to create Petite Avatars. Charlie, of De La Soul, offered these fantastic UnSeelie Petites, Lumi for the women and Lumio for the men, as his opening salvo, but do believe me when I say this is just the beginning; I know he already has plans for a line of Seelie, and hopefully I can persuade him to release some of his standard skins in petite as well. You can find them for sale here in the Petite Kingdom, which is also ground zero for a glorious petite hunt. He's also promised he'll be releasing his petite skins full sized, so we really have a lot to look forward to. I honestly had a hard time deciding which to show, but Midnight Blue is one of my favorite shades of all time and I love how the luminescence - which this skin is named for - looks over this dark, rich tone. I took the overview of all of Lumi's possibilities in Undertow, a color I actually named~! I named it for a scent from Black Phoenix Alchemy Labs, which I highly recommend for offline scented options. The skins come in eight color options: Aqua, Ember, Flame & Flora and Midnight, Morte, Nightshade & Undertow.

Lumi Petite Avatar

Lumi comes packed with options, all of which are HUD driven for a low-script avatar wherever you go. In addition to the standard Petite face animations (eyes open, eyes closed, a smile, and blinking), new for petite versions 2.0 and up, Charlie included a variety of lashes with different styles and tinting, and a custom tinting and glow system for the petite itself. Three foot and hand options are also included, and the head comes with faerie and human ears. Each Lumi or Lumio petite comes with matching eyes (one with white schlera and the other tinted dark) and clothing for only 1499$L. The clothing has multiple color and design options which are also HUD driven.I took pictures of all of the HUDs, so if you want to see how they work then click on "more pictures" and you'll see each one. He also has a set of eyes out as her Hunt prize in the Crystals hunt on the gorgeous new Petite Islands, where I took these pictures. It's a challenging place to take pictures - I kept falling through the floor - but it's absolutely mindblowingly gorgeous with tons of tiny, hidden spots to enchant and delight the eyes and ears. The hair I ended up using is this awesome hair from Secrets that is sized and designed for petites; they've become one of many stores offering petite options. The outfit is from Solange, and while I picked it up at the Fantasy Faire it took me forever to share it with you - isn't it gorgeous? Solange also has a crystal hidden for the Hunt.

Enchanted Rainbow

My Own Reflection Judges Me

I'm going to gush. Again. See, in my sparkly little soul I adore rainbows with a fervency which regularly invites mockery from my nearest and dearest, and within a very short amount of time two of my favorite stores fed my rainbow loving soul, so I'm sort of a ball of sparkle and glee - not very coherent, but very colorful! First of all, Alice Project has a HUD (now for sale) which allowed me to recolor all of her infinity hair rainbow (you will be seeing a lot of her hair in the next few photos, I'm just saying), and then Fallen Gods created and shared with me this incredible new skin. It's textured like wood, with the shininess of wood smoothed by hand rather than rendered shiny with gloss. The grain is still there, adding depth and form for the skin as it curves smoothly over my body, but it's also highlighted and enlivened with these amazing, rich, rainbow colors and bits of sparkle - as if a rainbow faerie touched the wooden statue with magic and brought it to life. There is not enough gushing for this skin; it has officially rendered me incoherent and squeeing. Colors curved along arms, legs, even a delicate curve from the buttocks to the back of the thigh which is simply stunning; this new skin has completely blown me away.

Up Close and Personal

Into this mix, of course, comes my dear friend from De La Soul with another set of - subtler this time - rainbow eyes. The eyes were actually created for his line of petites, which are being released for the first time at the new Petite sim opening, but he made them bigger for me because he loves me (and he's promised his petites will also be released full sized once he gets a chance). I'll have more information once I'm showing off one of his amazing petites, but as you can see just from the eyes they are amazing. The leaf jewelry is a free hunt prize in the Acorn Hunt from Alice Project at the All About Autumn Faire, and are recolorable (but sadly, not rainbow). She also has similar earrings with more leaves for sale, which are simply gorgeous. I'm also wearing some lovely bracelets from the Libra Zodiac Event made by CoLLisions, which have a matching necklace which unfortunately is hidden by my gorgeous outfit from Deviance, which was a lucky chair release (I'm not sure if it's still in the chair, but similar versions are for sale). I ended up resizing the bottom for my narrower-than-standard hips, and it was astonishingly easy to shift the prims; I live in hope that Deviance will jump onto the mesh bandwagon even if it isn't rigged, though - the detail of her clothing would really shine through mesh.

Edited to add: Surreal LeShelle IMed me to say: "My necro outfit is actually unrigged mesh and I do have some mesh projects I'm working on atm (as well as some regular old clothing layer stuff). I don't plan to release any rigged mesh the way things are now. Just don't like the idea of people having to change their shape to wear it. When the deformer gets sorted out I'd love to do some rigged outfits though."

Ya~y!!! My wish was fulfilled before I even made it!

Light and Shadow

I'm having a hard time changing out of this, and I don't often say that.

LEA 13: Flatland

Reflected Glory

One of the amazing things about Second Life is the extent to which something can be taken from the depths of the brain and made a reality, even if it violates physics and all sense. And then people can come in and place themselves within it, and blow your mind away. Such is the effect of C i c a's LEA display on LEA 13, made entirely out of flat drawings into which one can insert oneself as a fully formed three dimensional object. The effect is... well, you can see for yourself! I particularly enjoyed being full color in a black and white world, but now I'm wishing I had a black and white avatar to pose with too. I may be BACK.

Le Chat
By the way, I have to gush a little about Alice Projects' new infinity hair - which means every hair can be colored by any color in any HUD you get from her store. I ended up getting a HUD of massive awesomeness in a recent hunt which allowed for rainbow hair. You read that right - RAINBOW HAIR. I have been craving rainbow hair in a variety of sizes for a very long time - I may never take her hair off again (unlikely, but still... RAINBOW HAIR you guys!). I think the HUD is now for sale, but I suck at journalism. If it isn't we should all totally IM her CSR asking for it, yo. The jewelry is from Elemental and I got it last week for 60$L. She has another set out this week, and is doing a new four-color color change, which means effectively four times the necklace for 60$L. The Spectrum dress from Indigo Oddities was a lucky chair prize, and that wonderful person does a wonderful thing by putting her lucky chair dresses for sale for 10$L after their luck changes; this is a lot of dress, for very little linden. There's about half a million on her walls right now! Finally, these shoes are totally not a hunt prize, or on sale, but I love them so much! I pretty much buy fatpacks of G Field shoes whenever one comes out because they never disappoint, and this was no exception. In addition, her fatpacks are now HUD driven with the ability to retint multiple sections of the shoe, thus creating new and interesting combinations of colors to match almost everything! Inventory-saving and awesome, all in one package.

Single Frame Stories: Objectification

Objectification

I am an idealist. One of the problems with idealists like myself, is that it becomes easy to begin to see the world as a series of problems and archetypes, instead of seeing the world made up of people who sometimes have problems and fall within archetypes. When trying to change the world, when trying to balance the unbalanced scales of justice, it's important those changes and that unbalancing doesn't come at the expense of valuing and seeing the people who are affected by those changes and the unbalancing.

Through a Haze

Blossom

I see the world in layers - in layers of film over film, each layer giving meaning to the layers beneath. Sometimes, solid forms are formed by the layers. Sometimes, solid forms are seen despite the many layers above them. Sometimes, what seems to be a layer is not. Sometimes, what doesn't seem to be a layer is. Each layer reveals and conceals, covers and shows; each layer rises or falls. Sometimes I want to flee, and others burrow in, but I can't deny the power. I can't deny that I see the world in layers.

2012 Color Challenge: Week 39 - Hunter Green

Angled Stance

The Gatcha Event at Arcade is all over the feeds and blogs, so I'm sure you've seen things from it, but I was completely blown away by the landscaping around the event. Set on a pier, with beautifully sculpted gatcha machines for all of the prizes, the texturing is completely gorgeous. A lot of it is mesh, but I found despite the crowds which were always there I had surprisingly little lag. Once I headed outside of the main building (visible on the left side), I was barely lagging at all. One positive effect of the mesh is these gorgeous fences with all of the detailing and sculpting on them which is incredibly crisp and clean. I know mesh has had a rocky start in Second Life, but I have to admit I appreciate it more and more as increasingly skills individuals begin to raise the bar even higher. Really, what can be accomplished in Second Life now is simply unbelievable - the equal of any other game on the market even on lower level computers like mine is. I was reminded of a recent post from The Digital Pasture, about how Second Life defaults are unattractive. She theorizes that a major part of this is that Linden Labs doesn't employ designers and artists, nor does it take advantage of the very talented artists in Second Life (with a few exceptions, like the new picture ads). I wonder sometimes if it might be different if more of the builders in Second Life were part of the community, but it's difficult to say that would make a difference given how involved lindens once were and how even then people perceived them as being distant.

Within Reach

Recently, I seem to have been channeling the color challenges; this week I dressed up in Hunter Green without quite realizing I had until after the pictures were taken. It was harder to work the windlight this time because the sky was textured, so setting up something which looked good but still lit the environment sufficiently was a real challenge; I ended up not doing anything too flashy. The dress from Wishbox and the watch from katat0nik were the twin inspirations, and then I ended up with the green wrap from Schadenfreude and it seemed completely perfect. The dress is a longtime favorite, and I took advantage of Wishbox's recent sale to pick up all of the rest of the colors; the colors on it are so rich, and I adore the shiny texturing on the bodice, and the ribbon around the neck. katat0nik's watches are part of the the gatcha event, though this one was a gift from a dear friend to lure me there. I have further plans for these - part of a conversation she and I had - but you'll have to wait to see what it is! As for Schadenfreude, their style doesn't always fit me - difficult to say why, but it's true - but I really love this fox stole with the button eyes; it's rigged mesh, so it stays with your torso as you move.

The mouse ears are actually tinted to be a darker green, but they are also a prize from the gatcha event but from Auxiliary, and I'm still tempted to thrown more linden their way looking for those rainbow rares! That's the problem with gatcha events; they suck me dry and tempt me to keep going until I have everything!  The hair is a new release from Secrets Hair, and I really love it. It didn't fit right out of the box, but Secrets Hair is wisely mixing rigged mesh with prims and so I was able to shift a bit of bangs to cover my bits of skull. The bit of lipstick to give just a hint of color is a gorgeous offering from Mock; I went with simple cosmetics to highlight the Lolita styling of my dress; Lolitas tend to have very simple or innocent looking appearances. I'm not sure I ever manage innocent, but I think simple exists here! The boots are an amazing offering from Kcreations; like every time I've worn some of her boots I've been pleased, and the fact they are color changing and tintable means that they are infinitely matchable, even for difficult to find colors.

Single Frame Stories: Challenge 7 - Depth Perception

Depth Perception

Suddenly [Haggard] shouted, "What is the matter with your eyes? They are full of green leaves, crowded with trees and streams and small animals. Where am I? Why can I not see myself in your eyes?"
- The Last Unicorn, by Peter S. Beagle

Depth is such a relative thing, both literally and symbolically. What seems deep to one person can seem boringly shallow to another - but that says nothing about the relative worth of depth or shallowness; not really.

2012 Color Challenge: Week 38 - Papaya Whip

Jungle Fever

I didn't even hunt for outfits for Papaya Whip. I've been wanting to show off this amazing corset set from Rosal since I bought it, and since I bought the fatpacks of each part, I knew I could manage it. It comes in black, red, and white - and the white is tintable if you edit it; I just have to take a second to say how much I adore being able to tint white things to match a given outfit. In any case - the second I saw this set from Rosal, I was completely in love. I'm actually missing the ballet style boots, going with the stiletto heels instead. There are gloves to match, however, fully mesh, along with the neck and waist corsets. Each has stripes on them along which a flicker of glow moves regularly from and to different diodes on the corsets. It's futuristic and sleek, and I want about ten million of these gloves in various colors please! She just released some gorgeous kimono-inspired styles; if you like corsets for the waist and neck, Rosal absolutely has to be on your list of places to go.

I really struggled with pairing the corset set with other clothing - it is a mid-hip line, which means a lot of skirts won't work smoothly with it. I literally began trying different skirts of different types, finally happening onto these pieces from Bare@Rose, from her Artemis set. The pairing is perfect - unbounded and wild yet still sleek and smooth; curving out from the narrowness of neck and waist and flowing out smoothly in lean lines. I really love it as a total look; it moves as well as it photographs. Choosing the hair was equally difficult, and dictated by the corset set, but this mesh style from Alice Project was absolutely perfect. Her new hair setup is called the "infinity" set; you buy one HUD for coloring it, and then you can color up any hairstyles you want. There's an uber fatpack which is very ingeniously programmed - you select subsets to make them show up, instead of being overwhelmed by a million colors on one page. I've found myself using more tipped hairs now that I bought the fatpack; this, for example, is the blond on blond tips.

Clifftop Whimsey

The brilliant shininess of today's pictures combined with this weeks Depth Perception theme for Single Frame Stories got me thinking about how we perceive depth. Usually, deep people are morose and solitary, quiet, and what they see into is dark and deep, often murky and full of the crueler and more horrid sides of peoples' natures. There seems to be widespread acceptance that to be honest is to be cruel and harsh, and to be deep is to be solemn and dark and say things with three or more syllables. I do find my deepest thinking seems to be in stillness, but I have a strong desire to find the depth in the brilliant things, the honesty which leads us to be kinder, the depth which is of a brilliant and shining nature rather than something dark and murky. I want to find loving and noble basic truths to human nature, and when I use words of more than three syllable, I want them to resonate with power and meaning while lightening the load of all who hear them.

Walking on Air

Cloud Dancing

I grew up reading the Oz books, and one of the characters I always liked the most was Polychrome, the Rainbow's Daughter, who was found dancing on Earth to keep warm. High in the sky, closer to the sun, she was warmer; the ground was too icy for her and her filmy gown but she was making the best of what she could after dancing off of the rainbow's bow and being left behind when it was retracted. The Oz in my head is very different from the Oz when I go back to read it, but I've always had a soft spot for the whimsy and imagination that lingers at the edges of my mind now that I'm an adult, even if so many problems in Oz were invisible to me when I was a child. Childhood often has that soft-edged effect, where in our innocence we simply didn't see the trouble and toil around us; rather than being bright with color and solid edged, it is hazy and sepia tinted.

By the Crook

There is much in my life that is dark right now, but I'm clinging to the rainbow edges of joy that are rendered all the brighter for being right next to darkness.

Top Ten Blogs

Bamboo Falls

Gogo of Juicybomb put up a list of her Ten Favorite Blogs, and that seemed like a good idea so I followed suit. I tend to like people with strong perspectives that are different than me, whose posts make me think, or who find things I don't find myself. I am less likely to seek out purely fashion blogs, if only because I already spend a lot of Linden in Second Life with the store information I get now!

Selecting just ten is hard and I follow most of the blogs on my sidebar pretty regularly, which is why they organize by last post date (I start where I remember leaving off and go up), so I'll stick with some of the odder ones I like which I think should get a wider audience.

Through the Branches

The person whose blog I always check multiple times is Emerald's Eyes, but that's because I find her really funny and we made friends through blog (my only blog-to-world friend; so cool!).She's been quiet lately, but she really makes me laugh - her style reminds me a lot of The Bloggess and Hyperbole and a Half.

I've grown really fond of Salome Says; long, substantive posts, and I really like the chatty podcasts. I don't always agree with what she says, but she makes me think and I really value that.

Whiskey Shots does gorgeous pictures, and when she has something to say it's usually interesting. Sometimes it feels like she's giving perspective under pressure - especially with her recent posts which go more into her own life.

The Trainwreck Love Life covers a lot of stuff, not always SL related. I tend to follow all of her links, and I often enjoy her recordings of conversations and commentary on them.

Stone Steps

Across the Grid with Lindal Kidd has a great perspective and really engaging posts. Again, she has more of an educator's perspective, and often brings up aspects of identity and details of mainland exploration, which is not a strong point of mine.

The Poultry Report which is awesome for finding events and a very different perspective from mine. She has more of an event planner and sim designer focus, and I find that fascinating.

Honours Post-Menopausal View is my go-to blog for finding beautiful places in Second Life, followed closely by Yse SLiffeuse et Gloddeuse. Nine times out of ten, if I'm in a gorgeous place I found it from them, and that's a glorious thing.

For thinking I won't always agree with but at least I'll be thinking, I tend to go to Botgirl's Identity Circus and What is this Crap? I sometimes strongly disagree with both, but when I have the energy for it I like the challenge of things that are intelligent but that I disagree with. The issue of how to disagree with people while still honoring them and valuing their perspective looms large in my consciousness right now.

ICHP: Fall into Spring

Fall Overgrowth

This gorgeous dress is one of the recent releases from Sublime Shroud Kreations, a store run by a dear friend of mine (which means freebies~!). I adore this dress, though, from the layered front which cascades into three layers, to the delicately detailed bodice with lacing up the back, to the adorable bows on the hips holding on the front tucks and the back mini-bustle. It's cut low and square in front, as befits a French Confection, and all of the prim parts are fully modifyable. This came in handy when I needed to make the skirt shorter - yes, ladies and gentlemen, you know how much I love this dress because I resized the skirt manually to be shorter and thus fit me better. As you can see, it was time well invested though. The only flaw I saw, and this is a teeny one, is some slight imperfections under the arms along the seams, but my understanding is that the area is a very difficult one for shading.

The jewelry is an adorable wire and gem set from Eclectica, which comes with a medium hanging necklace, earrings, a bracelet, and a ring. I love the delicate patterning of the wire around the stone on this one (best visible on the bottom picture) mimicking the petals of a rose. It's the kind of necklace I'd actually love to find offline, but that I think would be prohibitively expensive! At least in Second Life I can afford it.

Reflected

The hair is another new release, from Secrets Hair, and it's another of their amazing combinations of rigged mesh and flexible prim. it's long and full, with the movement that flexi gives it too look natural while still hugging the torso so that you don't end up with hair clipping into your body. One interesting effect with this hair is that under certain lights the rigged part behaves very differently from the flexi - I considered trying for some shots to show it off, and I may revisit that with an outfit that suits it. It's a very neat effect.

Finally, these gorgeous shoes are a recent release from Felicity; if you want to try them out, the hot pink version of them are hidden as part of the Finding FabFree Hunt. You're actually looking for a five, so it's not that difficult in most places (though some of the stops are evil!). Felicity's skin-tinting hud is one of my favorites; you edit it and use the built-in texture changer to tint it, then set the color on the skin. She has a similar toenail tinting system, which means the effects can match virtually anything - in this case I pulled dark green form the dress to tint my toes. It also comes with a built in AO and the clickity-clack sounds of the heels if that's to your taste! I fly in Second Life a lot, so I tend to turn that off.

The Perfumed Cutlass Hunt

The Perfumed Cutlass Hunt is the latest MadPea Hunt, a brief and fun confection with hints included for each item - which is important, since there is no limit as to how far the hunt item can be from where you teleport in. You buy the HUD for 10$L at the gorgeous MadPea Pirate Cove, then click on the HUD to fill in the map at each of the participating stores, following the trail of hearts the Perfumed Cutlass left behind her in her travels. Once you've found all fifteen, you get an avalanche of gifts that I'm showing off below where X marks the spot, in the Perfumed Cutlass' secret treasure cave. To add to the fun, each store contains a fun little story about each of the Perfumed Cutlass' loves, a touch which I ended up really enjoying.

I've taken pictures of the prizes below; hope you find this handy~!

1 The Elegant Goth

Elegant Goth
1. Theirs was a romance for the history books, The Perfumed Cutlass and The Elegant Goth. She was his lady and he was the champion of her heart, but alas the lure of the sea was too great and one night she stole away. However she never forgot the long nights in the library when he would read to her from his alchemy books and they would play at turning lead to gold. It's why she left him a piece of her map tucked away inside a book. In the hope that one day his dreams of gold might come true.

2. They met behind the Greenstone Trade House in North South Essex. She was running away from the guard and ended up in his arms. He was quick on his feet and he swirled her into a kiss against the wall. The unsuspecting guard charged right past. She would have been outraged had he not saved her from certain death. They had a passionate summer romance but when the winds turned cool she sailed out of his embrace. However she left a piece of her map for him tucked behind a brick in the wall where they shared their first desperate kiss.

3 dirty little secret

3. She was his dirty little secret. He was an aristocratic looking for adventure and she was a pirate. It was a match made in heaven, at least while it lasted. They spent long moonlit evenings sitting in the rattan chairs on the balcony of his plantation home while she regaled him with her escapades. When she sailed away on the tide one moonless night she made sure to leave him a memento tucked between the weave of those chairs.

4 Brat

4. He always called her his little Brat and in the end she was when she refused his proposal and shipped out to sea. She didn't want to break his heart, but she had no choice. As a consolation she left him a piece of her map to keep him warm with the promise of someday returning and sharing a champagne toast with him to celebrate their nuptials.

5. He always said he would carve their initials into the bark of the tree who's leaves flamed as red as their passion. Alas their time together ended before he ever got around to it but she felt the map piece carefully wrapped against the elements and laid to rest in the arms of that same tree would remind him of their love.

6. He was as sneaky as she was when it came to buried secrets. She never forgot the trust he showed when he revealed the hiding spot of this treasure box. A love both pure and true burned for her in his soft brown eyes, and she loved him too in her wandering way. Before she left she made a deposit in his treasure box, a piece of her map tied up in blue ribbon with a lock of her hair, safe under the rock in the garden.

7 Just Because

Just Because
7. He was a clothier for the nobility. Always a slave to fashion, she had seduced him and he in turn had created for her the most magnificent gown of rich brocades and satins. Long days spent fitting the layers and layers of cloth against her curves gave way to nights infront of the fire, flames illuminating those same curves in delightful ways. Once his gown caressed her form she knew she would never allow any other to dress her. When she slipped away she left him a piece of her map tucked between bolts of cloth as payment for services rendered.

8. Both fans of the theater, they met when two tickets matched one chair. He made her skin tingle and her caress warmed him like the sun. Theirs was a passion of the flesh but it touched her heart before it ended. She could not deny leaving him a piece of her map tucked into the cushions of the lucky chair that brought them together.

9 Fallen Gods

Fallen Gods
9. Theirs was a love of thoughts, words and the Sea. Rivals turned allies turned friends, their relationship was tumultuous to say the least. There was a definite beginning to their story but the ending was never so clearly defined. Unlike anyone she had ever known, he seemed impervious to her charms and warned her away. Challenged, she swooped in and captured a prey he was stalking. He retaliated by offering a bounty on her head that succeeded in The Perfumed Cutlass being delivered to the uncrowned Pirate King by her own men. Sure of rape and death, and not necessarily in that order, everyone, from his crew to her crew to she herself, were surprised when he simply stuck her in the galley as the Cook's assistant. A fate worse then death to be sure. The adventure sucked out of her sails, she became despondent and then angry. To be killed at the hands of the Pirate King was one thing, a climatic end to a dramatic life. To be his Cook's assistant was to be forgotten and that was unacceptable!

In the dead of night  she crept from her hammock clutching the paring knife she had smuggled out of the kitchen vowing to slit his throat, or die trying. Curiously, she stole unseen to his cabin where she found him reading a book. Raising the knife high, she meant to slam it into the back of his neck, when suddenly he swirled in his seat, and in one fluid movement caught her hands, scooped her into his lap and disengaged the knife from between her fingers. As he leaned over her struggling body, she closed her eyes preparing for the end. She waited. And waited. And waited some more. Finally, opening her eyes she saw him peering down at her, eyes sparkling with amusement. 'I heard you were brave, my dear, yet you meet death with eyes closed?' Smiling, he offered her a slice of pear carved with the paring knife. Thus begun their lifelong friendship and shared love of pears. She never needed to give him a piece of her map because she never left him, but he always knew where her treasure was buried just the same.

10. Her jewels were the envy of queens, but none compared to the beauty of the earrings he gave her. Modeled on her own earlobes, there could not be a more perfectly shaped pair of earrings in all the world. Unfortunately a miasma settled into his lungs and the doctors gave him little hope of recovery unless an elixir made from the petals of a the azure kissed jungle hollyhock could be made. She set sail at once to retrieve the prize and left him a piece of her map as her promise to return.

11. When they met he said he knew they would share great passion because he had seen it in his crystal ball. Apparently he had also seen the truth of how long she would stay, because on the day the tide turned he slipped away from her before she could sail away from him. His bravery in the face of heartbreak touched her soul so she left a piece of her map underneath his crystal ball so his future would not look so bleak.

12. There are no photos of The Perfumed Cutlass but neither are there any portraits of her likeness. Once an artist feel in love with her visage and tried to paint it. Upon revealing his intention to her she had no choice but to threaten his life and the sight of his children. She didn't like to threaten, it seemed so brutish but fear does things to people. Later she relented, kissing the eyelids of the children she had almost blinded. Afraid for this family she had made lest her past be revealed, she slipped away in the dead of night leaving behind nothing more then a piece of her map as an inheritance. Still in love with faces her many times great grandchildren capture people with cameras instead of paints.

13. She admired his work on many of the ships she captured and finally found the opportunity to meet him when she needed to have her captain's quarters repaired after a particularly hellish encounter with Her Majesty's Royal Navy. His craftsmanship was inspired. He made wood bend in ways she had never seen. She admired him for his skill and loved him for the passion he poured into his art. She knew as she sailed out of port that he would understand her passion for the open sea and not mourn her leaving. Still she was glad to have left a piece of her map for him tucked away behind the leather couch on which they had reclined so often.

14 Ravensong

14. His hands were what she would always remember about him, his sculptor's carress against her skin. He laughed when she commissioned a bronze casting of his hand but indulged her anyways. On the day it was complete she slipped through his fingers but left a piece of her map nestled against his polished palm to remember her by.

15 Aphrodite

Aphrodite Megastore
15. He told her stories about the faces in the trees which made them both laugh until they cried. It never occurred to her that anyone would be interested in the tales of her adventures, but he had encouraged her to talk and listened with such rapt attention, hanging on her every word, that she couldn't help but fall in love. He had heard the stories, he knew that she would not stay, but before she left she tucked a scrap of her map into a knot on the tree with the toothy grin.

In Spirit

Face to Face

I had already done a photoshoot at claudia222 Jewell's Art Screamer show - spirit - but I'm glad I came back for another look, this time working with a darker pallet. I'm so very glad I came back, because I found several layers I had missed the last time. I'm kind of wishing I had the time and attention to do a third set with a different windlight, but it's closing today and I try to not overwhelm myself with too much pressure; I feel like the push to take photographs actually can weaken the photographs taken. At ground level is the usual psychadelicly muted figures set out in glorious fractal style which characterize Jewell's art, but in this case the lower level gives birth to growing platforms higher and higher in the air, including the birthplace of bees and what looks like a floating layer of jellyfish. At once both organic and fantastic, the problem with photographing one of Jewell's art pieces is less finding something worth a picture and more finding angles which imply the greater whole experienced in 3D. I hope I have managed, in some small way, to capture even a fragment of my gasps of delight as I explored spirit in the dark.

Eyes Bloom

Bare Rose does the best hunts in the known universe, and this is an example of their hunt prizes - almost the whole outfit (plus a horse to ride which I didn't wear) was a single, relatively easy hunt prize, with a really awesome story to go along with it. I try very hard to do all of the hunts through her and keep all of the stories since they're so awesome; you've missed this one, but future ones await us all. The hair is an awesome one from Secrets Hair which I honestly didn't think I would ever find an outfit for, until I tried it with this outfit. The goggles are part of the Bare Rose outfit, but the kerchief is part of the Secrets Hair - confusing, I know! But doesn't it look awesome? The little dangles in front of the ears cut a little into my faerie ears, but not enough that it really disrupts even in pictures. It's also a mix of rigged mesh and flexi hair, which makes it very versatile but still good looking when you move; the pony tail sticks to the back no matter how you move, while the flexi swirls around giving the illusion of free floating hair. .

2012 Color Challenge: Week 37 - Royal Blue

Hidden Treasure

Royal Blue is a gorgeously rich color, and I fell into it quite by accident as a group gift from Dressed by Lexi; I suppose you could say I'm Lexidressed! The usual alpha issues of dresses with semi-transparent fabric show up here and there, but Lexi did something very clever when she built the skirts and made them multilayered and highly textured - which means often the alpha occlusion disappears in the layers covering layers. Combine that with the bias-hanging skirt, and you have a dress that is beautiful to watch move. This is a dress to dance in; Photographs of it in a static state really don't do it justice. The jewelry was made to match - I took the easy way out - and both are nearly free; the dress is a group gift and the jewelry and shoes are on sale. I paired it with this adorable hairstyle from Wasabi Pills, with it's cute over the ear style. No real closeups, though! It's often hard to pair hairs with ears and make it look good, so photography angles and shadows become very important. The little tattoo on my throat is from Belleza; all of the zodiac symbols were made for 50$L Friday but don't seem to still be available (sorry!). It comes in dark and faded (I'm showing dark) along with heart and star tattoos. I accidentally bought Capricorn, so I know the heart and star aren't just for the most important sign, Pisces.

Grotto

I got really into Cristina Rad this week, who's a vlogger through Free Thought Blogs. I am not an atheist and I'm only halfway a skeptic (with the other half being mystic) but I really like her perspective even when I disagree with what she sees. The same goes for a lot of the bloggers on Free Thought Blogs; Pharyngula was my gateway drug, but I'm also a huge fan of Butterflies and Wheels and Greta Christina's Blog. I spend a lot of time reading blogs and very little time responding, but often what I read is carried through by me into larger, broader thoughts to try to encompass more of the world in a more accurate way. Now and then, there are dismissive comments made about how 90% of the population is a consumer instead of a producer; a similar perspective shows up in Second Life, where several bloggers have expressed horror at the people who come into Second Life, wear clothing, go to clubs, talk to other people, and never create anything. I personally think that the consumers are the other half of the equation; part of talking is having people listen, and with no one to listen, talking becomes more of an internal process rather than something which may have any meaning outside of the individual. Likewise, created clothing without buyers just sits on shelves unworn. Rather than the consumer being parasitic on the creator, I believe it's much more of a symbiotic relationship which has echos across human culture.
