130 names, 130 torn lives, 130 destinies broken, 130 peoples whose laughter we hear no more, 130 voices that have fallen silent. These women and these men embodied the joy of living. Because of this life that they were killed. Because they were France they were shot. Because they were free they were slaughtered.

Despite the tears, this generation is the face of France.

It hasn't even been a year since 130 people were killed in Paris - November 13th, 2015 has joined so many other dates of tragedies caused by hatred. It takes place on one of the sites where the French Revolution started the ball rolling toward the current republic - a dark, bloody, and violent era which exists now between the pages of books. Every era has its darkness and bloodiness, though; and every era carries within it the seeds of future greatness. My figure of the past has leapt forward a little over a century, to a time dreamt of in her own era; a time when her country was ruled not by a king, but by elected officials; when the world was all but holding its breath in the days before another great war would scar Europe and Asia.

Once this Republic was new; now it endures tragedies and sends calls for compassion and love out to the world.
