A Year of Weekly Themes: Spring!

Softpaw Sommer is doing a Weekly Theme Blogger Challenge and I thought it would be fun to pitch in with an image for each week!

This Week's Theme: Spring!

A Year of Weekly Themes: Spring!

I love Spring - it's my favorite season, with the chilly warmth and brilliantly colored flowers. I went misty with my colors above. I actually started in my platform and gave up - it kept looking so dire! - and dropped down tot he brightly colored sim below, keeping the misty in a nod to the April Showers of the poems. I'm dancing in this image, with puffs of particles rising out of me, and it was quite a lot of fun to try to catch particular poses as I bopped along with the music.

A Year of Weekly Themes: Luck!

Softpaw Sommer is doing a Weekly Theme Blogger Challenge and I thought it would be fun to pitch in with an image for each week!

This Week's Theme: Luck!

A Year of Weekly Themes: Luck!

Hamingja is an old Norse concept, usually translated as "luck". It comes from an entirely different worldview, though - part person, part ancestor, part energy, part resources. It' a word which encompasses where we come from and the advantages we're born within addition to what we do with those resources, as much a spiritual and religious concept as a practical and tangible one.

I think about hamingja a lot. I think about the advantages I have, what I do with them, how I am in the world. I worry that the contemplation undercuts the action - but the only way to determine that is to get out there and act.

A Year of Weekly Themes: Rainbow!

Softpaw Sommer is doing a Weekly Theme Blogger Challenge and I thought it would be fun to pitch in with an image for each week!

This Week's Theme: Rainbow!

A Year of Weekly Themes: Rainbow!

I am, let's say, fairly well known as a lover of rainbows. A few years ago it took over as my favorite color, a symbol of how I want to view the world. You see, in order for a rainbow to be a rainbow, every color has to be itself. Red can't pretend to be yellow, it has to be red. Green has to be all the different shades of green instead of turning in an inferior performance as blue. A rainbow is best represented when every color is itself, working in harmony with the other colors, none excluded.

Likewise, I want a world where each person is recognized and honored for who they are, where we figure out ways to honor a plurality of people that not only are different but have to be different. I believe that everyone has something wonderful to bring to the world, if we could only make circumstances under which it can shine.

An image around the theme of time is ironic since I'm already late!

A White Rabbit in earnest.

A Year of Weekly Themes: Leap!

Softpaw Sommer is doing a Weekly Theme Blogger Challenge and I thought it would be fun to pitch in with an image for each week!

This Week's Theme: Leap!

A Year of Weekly Themes: Leap!

I've fallen a few weeks behind and there are rainbows in my future! One of the side effects of doing a lot is falling behind when a lot of things pile up, and as my focus has shifted offline and into roleplaying, my ability to keep up has suffered. It's a sort of leap-before-you-look kind of thing - appropriate for a theme of leaping!

When I first started putting together this image, I was envisioning looking from below - but I think the effect from above, just moments before gravity takes over, is more striking. There's always that moment when you wonder if this time gravity will let you slip free so you can fly.

A Year of Weekly Themes: Love!

This Week's Theme: Love!

A Year of Weekly Themes: Love!

I haven't had love - romantic love - in my life for a very long time. Even the other kinds of love I have are more at a distance - my friends by and large aren't local and most nights it's me and my cat, curled up in his furry bed next to me.That is my favorite sort of love - the cuddly love of an adoring kitty.

A Year of Weekly Themes: Home!

Softpaw Sommer is doing a Weekly Theme Blogger Challenge and I thought it would be fun to pitch in with an image for each week!

This Week's Theme: Home!

The Front Porch

I have two homes in Second Life - one which I pay for yearly and maintain as a private base, and one where I am most every day and where I spend most of my time. The first was an old purchase and is why I maintain my premium membership; a Linden Home in the fae-ish woodland decorated in a sweet and simple style. Now and then I hang out there and spy on the neighbors, but I'll be honest when I say that it isn't where I often go. It is where my home is set to, however, and it's where I can retreat even if another circle of friends turns on me.

A Year of Weekly Themes: Enchanted!

Softpaw Sommer is doing a Weekly Theme Blogger Challenge and I thought it would be fun to pitch in with an image for each week!

This Week's Theme: Enchanted!

A Year of Weekly Themes: Enchanted!

I love the dynamism of movement and change and the serendipitous shots which can be captured when you introduce chaos in the process of taking static images. I fine the exploration of this particular type of chaos to be enchanting and absorbing, and winnowing down through a dozen or more images to the one which captures every aspect I want singularly enjoyable.

A Year of Weekly Themes: Dreams!

Softpaw Sommer is doing a Weekly Theme Blogger Challenge and I thought it would be fun to pitch in with an image for each week!

This Week's Theme: Dreams!

A Year of Weekly Themes: Dreams!

Dreams are a fuzzy thing. The natural ones are always set in shadows, misted with the vagaries of a sleeping memory. Times and places which are exactly what they should be but not what they are when you're awake. Long quests that require wyrd and obscure solutions. And then we wake up to a world more mundane, and yet somehow not any more understandable...

A Year of Weekly Themes: Pink!

Softpaw Sommer is doing a Weekly Theme Blogger Challenge and I thought it would be fun to pitch in with an image for each week!

This Week's Theme: Pink!

A Year of Weekly Themes: Pink!

I once disliked pink - decrying it as a lot of young women who get discouraged by the limitations of sexism. One of the more interesting moments of my life was when I was forced to re-examine femininity, it's relationship to power, to color, to the ability to accomplish ones' goals. I still don't like the explosion of pink over all things girly, but I've learned to love all the many shades of pink and how they all layer together beautifully. From soft to bright to reddish to purplish, pink is a color to embrace for us all!

A Year of Weekly Themes: Glitter!

Softpaw Sommer is doing a Weekly Theme Blogger Challenge and I thought it would be fun to pitch in with an image for each week!

This Week's Theme: Glitter!

A Year of Weekly Themes: Glitter!

Glitter is an interesting thing to try to produce in Second Life but collabor88 offered up a bunch of different, iridescent glittery surfaces using a combination of textures and materials. Glitter itself I have mixed feelings about - I adore the look, I am less than fond of finding bits of plastic stick to my cleavage several weeks later! Virtual glitter is so much cleaner!

A Year of Weekly Themes: Birthday!

Softpaw Sommer is doing a Weekly Theme Blogger Challenge and I thought it would be fun to pitch in with an image for each week!

This Week's Theme: Birthday!

A Year of Weekly Themes: Birthday!

I actually have a birthday this year, so that's rather exciting. I have no idea what I'm going to do for it, and frankly I'm really dreading the planning process; I had thought of trying for another party, but I'm really not good at them. I think I might instead indulge in everything I like most, bake myself a cake, and having a wonderful day off chilling in my awesome abode. It's not a typical birthday, but it's a birthday that would make me very happy!
