SL DisneyBound: Week Two - Ariel “Kiss the Girl”

I am being late girl for all of my challenges, but I hope this one is well worth the wait! Disney's Ariel has a few different outfits, but the one for the "Kiss the Girl" scene is a gorgeous remake of Aurora's gown from Sleeping Beauty, only in shades of blue and black. I ended up edging more on white on the top, but I really love the final look even though I took some liberties with the shades! This is a hugely combined outfit, so I'm going to start from the top and move my way down.

First, the bow is a special large bow from NYC, I think from one of the accessory events. I wanted something really huge and over the top, and I think this bow really fits the bill; it is over the ponytail instead of behind my head, but I think it works anyway. The hair, in a sharp and amazing shade of red, is a fun updo from Wasabi Pills festooned with braids. This was one of my bigger departures from Ariel's look, since hers is long and has a ploom over the brow, but I really loved the style. I matched my hair with eyebrows from De La Soul, which added a touch of realism.

The collar is actually from an outfit otherwise not represented - a gorgeous outfit from Cipher that I really adore, and that gave me the perfect collar for this outfit. The shirt itself is from Rabbit Kiss, part of a gothic look, and I ended up altering it both in adding a smaller and less ornate collar, and changing out the corset for a different style one. The sleeves of the shirt are very puffy and rigged, so they curved beautifully and gave the full puffyness of the Ariel gown. The corset is an old purchase of mine from Aura, and I really adore it. It's curvy and sweet, and has the most adorable bow. It comes in a lot of colors, but I made sure to pick up the simple black, and that's what I'm wearing here. Finally, the skirt was the initial inspiration of the entire outfit, a gorgeous gown skirt from Blue Blood that I purchased ages ago and haven't been able to showcase before now. I really adore the foaming lower edge of the skirt which I thought was really reminiscent of Ariel's origin as a mermaid, and her future in the original fairytale as sea foam.

Antique Truth

The Truth District is having special birthday events (I squeaked into the group while it was open right under the wire, but I didn't post in time to share, sorry!) and I'm wearing some of the awesome free and sale items (mostly sale items). Walking around the District, I was struck by how many shopping malls that remain work so hard to be attractive, so decided to snap some pictures once I put on my new shinies. The dress from Aura is a free gift, and quite outside of my usual style - but I like the effect. This is the large, and it still clips my boobs a little, but this awesome half-off Truth hair cover that up nicely. One thing to note - make sure you have your lingerie handy when you wear this dress or you will be flashing the world! Also, if you're taking photographs, be careful with the upward angle; the bottom is completely transparent, so bits of the background kept showing up as my upper thighs; I may do a second set of pictures just to see what interesting things I can make show up there! It was rather entertaining. The jewelry is from Earthstones, also on sale, and comes in rainbow or diamond - I bought rainbow, obviously - with gold or silver metal. The ring from Sugar is from another event, the Fruity Stuff in Stock, and was quite inexpensive as well as coming with a slew of other rings of different macaron flavors.

Have I mentioned lately there are a lot of sales going on? There are a lot of sales going on.

Forgotten Undies

I almost forgot about these undies, which I got ages ago from katat0nik during one of the special events - I don't remember which, now. I'm not showing off the frilly hip ruffles, but otherwise this is the set in all of its glory. I'm pretty sure you can still get them at the store, though, and you can definitely get these awesome shoes (I bought the fatpack). The corset (Aura) and hair (Exile) are both from the Fairy Tale Event, and when I saw those corsets I thought immediately of the undies I'd been planning to photograph for months - and a look was born. I adore the hair, though keep in mind if  you're photographing it that the larger, 'flying' pieces will cause alpha occlusion (hence the prim, Favole wings!). I adore the corset - which comes in a dizzying array of combinations that ended up stymieing me. I literally have no idea which to pick up; I may end up going back and just staring for a while! My one complaint is that like a lot of mesh things, it's a single side, so photographing form some angles isn't possible due to it looking like I've got holes in my body! I worked around it pretty easily, but I really wish more mesh designers would make their mesh with "tops" and "bottoms", which can prevent some of these problems.

Wearing this out about in the Forgotten City, I was really struck by the changes in myself in the last few years. When I first started in Second Life, I was extremely flesh-shy, and wore mostly longer skirts and higher neck outfits. The idea of going out in public in my underwear, much less photographing it, was unthinkable.I still am, by Second Life standards, quite prudish - but now I can wander around in my underwear for a while as I find the perfect place to take pictures without much thinking about it. Some of it is simply that by comparison I'm very demure; the standards for female clothing in Second Life often skirt barely there with an emphasis on bare. Others of it is that I've become more confident that I won't be bothered or harassed despite my clothing. And still more is that I've grown to like the effect of certain outfits, so lingering in them can be fun. Also, given my permanently single state in Second Life - if I didn't show you guys my underwear, no one would see it!
