Fantasy Faire: Kukashi Pasu
I have loved Kakushi Pasu since I watched it slowly rez around me while listening to Seanan McGuire answer questions. Built like a Japanese Tea House, the open wooden walkways surround a rocky core surrounded by bamboo plants, maple trees, and enormous lotus blossoms. It is at once architectural and natural, the sharp lines of dark wood cutting pleasantly through the softer curves of plants and water. The shadows of bamboo leaves is particularly striking, especially complementing the dark red of the maple. The square shape of the walkways, with their small buildings cropping up here and there, invites contemplation of the floating lanterns which never stop moving. There are two notable areas - one an open air meeting room with a stage for readers and stumps for listeners, and the other a tall cliff where the Fantasy Faire Dragon has moored himself and his ship.
Since Kakushi Pasu is the Literary Festival sim, there is little in the way of clothing there. In the dance area is a glorious Hat Gacha Vendor, which dispenses mini-versions of the Fantasy Faire sims for your head, along with a vendor for an adorable deer avatar you might have seen tromping around. It's fun to have a mix of sims for shopping and sims for entertainment, and I've loved watching the number of sims increase even while lamenting that our time in the Fairelands remains as fleeting as ever. Luckily, this year the closing has been pushed back to the fourth of May, so we have a little longer to linger and indulge.
I ended up picking through my inventory for items from other sims which I thought I might not get to there: for example, this lovely gown from Silvan Moon Designs (The Spirit Pool). It's made for Belleza, Maitreya, and Slink as well as having the full complement of fitted sizes for the standard mesh body, and alpha layers to match. The gown, overskirt, belt and sleeves are all separate, which means you can mix and match between colors of the gown or simplify it down if you wish. The colors are soft but rich, and I especially like how the blue and gold contrasts on the Lobelia gown in particular. The long train gets a little crumpled in some poses, but the overall rigging and movement is lovely (especially on the arms - virtually no clipping!) and I adore the unusual curve of the bodice and the uneven curl of the overskirt.
I paired the gown with a fun crown in an older style from Bliensen + MaiTai (The Spirit Pool). I love her hats, and his one was no exception. The flatness of this hat made it relatively easy to find a hairstyle which worked with it - reprising an old favorite from Doe right now, with it's fantastic whorls and my favorite ombre textures on the grid - tuckign the bottom edge between the back of the bangs and the beginning of the updo. The gems on front are perfectly angled to go over a set of low bangs, adding to their versatility. The fabric of the crown is changeable via a HUD. I remain grateful that Plurabella makes her items editable, meaning I was able to set the fabric to white using the HUD and then tint it to match the unusual shade of my gown; I can't say enough about how valuable it is to have tintable accessories in a world of gorgeous but unusual colors!
I wanted a crystal skin to go with crystal hair and contrast with my sedately hued gown, and Fallen Gods (The Rose) came through for me again with a brand new Fairelands release. It comes with several appliers (Omega, Slink, Soul Uniear), an outfit, wings, hair, eyes, and lashes. I particularly like the coil of crystal butterflies which are included in the outfit - very striking. There are a number of ALia's skins which will be vanishing with the Fairelands, so make sure to check out his store while we can still cross the rainbow bridge to a land built out of the dreams of roses in Venice.
