Colour! Colour! Colour! Week 15: Tangerine Yellow

The Weekly Color Challenge is back this year with a different format, through the Flickr Group Colour! Colour! Colour! Each week is given an RGB code.

This Week's Color is R:255 G:204 B:0 (#ffcc00)

Colour! Colour! Colour! Week 15: Tangerine Yellow

I have loved this dress for an incredibly long time, and I'm so glad this color came up so I could wash the world in it's buttery warmth! It's the color of sunshine, of creaminess, of overwhelming warmth - I love this as a precursor to summer, when the sun moves closer to bake the planet and drown plants in it's rays. In the original myth of how Kore becomes Persephone, the period of death when she was divided form her mother was the summer, when the hot Mediterranean sun left too little moisture for anything to live. It was only with the soothing rain of the fall that life would return again to the world along with moisture. Until then, everyone had to bake under Demeter's curse at the kidnapping of her child.

Colour! Colour! Colour! Week 14: Slightly Desaturated Green

This is a lovely shade, but difficult to find purely in world! I'm having fun trying to find things, but definitely feeling the struggle. I do love this shade, though - clean, serene, and cool.

Colour! Colour! Colour! Week 13: Moderate Blue

The Weekly Color Challenge is back this year with a different format, through the Flickr Group Colour! Colour! Colour! Each week is given an RGB code.

This Week's Color is R:47 G:69 B:180 (#2f45b4)

Colour! Colour! Colour! Week 13: Moderate Blue

I've spent the last few days clearing out my inventory and hunting for this particular shade of blue, mostly in bits. Inventory management is it's own skill in Second Life - and mine is enormous and unweildy; I have an extensive sorting system for my clothing, but nothing as nearly complete for the items I rez in world, and I have an immense backlog of hunts, gifts. items to blog, and items picked up at events and rapidly forgotten. Since November, my objects folder has lingered as a mass of confusing objects and longstanding objects; events have thrown my plans into chaos, and even now I pick up vastly more than I have the time to sort through. This will only grow worse during Fantasy Faire, which is coming up with alarming rapidity, but I'm looking forward to the challenge! In the mean time, I'm tossing out some gorgeous finds which I missed the first time around - I hope you enjoy!

Colour! Colour! Colour! Week 12: Dark Magenta

The Weekly Color Challenge is back this year with a different format, through the Flickr Group Colour! Colour! Colour! Each week is given an RGB code.

This Week's Color is R:122 G:27 B:104 (#7a1b68)

Colour! Colour! Colour! Week 12: Dark Magenta

This color was so close to Very Dark Magenta that I ended up scouring the grid for something that was just dark! I'm finding the fine differences between shades to be a real challenge since I'm trying to color-match inside of Second Life instead of afterwards, but I'm really pleased with how this image worked out - especially since I was able to use the color of the week as the mid-level light color, which adds a rather nice effect, I think. I'm tempted to one week dress in all white and see if I can color match via light alone, but that might be a bit much!

Colour! Colour! Colour! Week 11: Mostly Desaturated Dark Violet

The Weekly Color Challenge is back this year with a different format, through the Flickr Group Colour! Colour! Colour! Each week is given an RGB code.

This Week's Color is R:132 G:91 B:149 (#845b95)

Colour! Colour! Colour! Week 11: Mostly Desaturated Dark Violet

Class is one of my blind spots when it comes to axes of discrimination, and so I found the Cracked Podcast on class in the US - and the extensive related links - fascinating. I believe I'm middle class; I really recognized myself in the description of looking down both on people from "trailer parks" and people with  "Legacies" for Ivy League Schools. However, I have a lot of fantasies of and aspirations to be classy: I wield power through social leverage instead of physical, I try to have "good taste" and not be garish or lewd, I reify self-control and philanthropy. Ethically, I'm solidly pro-social justice, but examining my own class is unexpectedly unnerving.

Colour! Colour! Colour! Week 9: Very Dark Magenta

The Weekly Color Challenge is back this year with a different format, through the Flickr Group Colour! Colour! Colour! Each week is given an RGB code.

This Week's Color is R:102 G:0 B:102 (#660066)

Colour! Colour! Colour! Week 9: Very Dark Magenta

I don't show much skin in Second Life.

The reason is both personal and contextual. Personally, I'm on the shy end - online or off I tend to flash a bit of cleavage and little more. Contextually, nudity in Second Life is common, low stakes, and easy. Bodies don't show the wear of years or the weight of cares and cultural mores are lax.

I prefer to view nudity like cursing - to be deployed deliberately and for great effect.

I prefer my sexuality as much a matter of implication as fact.

The best mysteries must be plumbed.

Colour! Colour! Colour! Week 8: Bright Blue

This Week's Color is R:64 G:67 B:225 (#4043e1)

Colour! Colour! Colour! Week 8: Bright Blue

Some colors are easy to find. Others are much more of a challenge! This color damn near broke me; I ended up tinting a few different things to match, but I rather like the effect of fading into the background - set apart by nothing but a few shadows.

Colour! Colour! Colour! Week 7: Strong Red

The Weekly Color Challenge is back this year with a different format, through the Flickr Group Colour! Colour! Colour! Each week is given an RGB code.

This Week's Color is R:179 G:0 B:0 (#b30000)

Colour! Colour! Colour! Week 7: Strong Red

The color of blood, and passion - this is the red which keeps you up at night, frantic and heavy with desire. It's the red of fresh blood, of the spray of an aorta on a wall. It's the color of the roses you send when you want something - love, sex, forgiveness. It's life, it's death, is anything writ big and splashy.

Colour! Colour! Colour! Week 6: Dark Orange [Brown Tone]

The Weekly Color Challenge is back this year with a different format, through the Flickr Group Colour! Colour! Colour! Each week is given an RGB code.

This Week's Color is R:170 G:67 B:32 (aka #aa4320)

Colour! Colour! Colour! Week 6: Dark Orange [Brown Tone]

Unusual colors are always a challenge - and this particular shade of brownish-orange was incredibly difficult to find! I ended up going a touch more red in hue, balancing it out with some brown-tone accessories - and once again we're given a chance to see this particular color and how it responds to a variety of different types of light! Orange is a color of sensuality, of warmth and fecundity, a color associated with the fading of autumn and not the pastel hues of this time of year. The warmth of pumpkin gently seasoned with cinnamon, a sip of mulled apple cider before bedtime - the worlds' best cure for the common cold. In the moments under the blankets before sleep has quite lost it's hold, this color lingers at the edges of my mind like the echoes of remembered comforts.

Colour! Colour! Colour! Week 5: Dark Moderate Green

This Week's Color is R:130 G:163 B:55 (aka #82a337)

Colour! Colour! Colour! Week 5: Dark Moderate Green

I'm loving the inspiration to go back through my inventory and unearth old treasures. This dress (and matching lipstick) are both from Senzafine and were among the first mesh clothing I purchased. I fell in love with the dress and jacket combination, and that sort of combination has remained a staple of many mesh creator's portfolio. The elbows show some of the "gummyness" of early rigged SL mesh, but I think the excellent texturing of the dress in general, and the unique and striking style, more than make up for the difficulties of the Second Life form! I gave up trying to find accessories that matched after setting up my face, though; the group gift Truth hair is dyed, as are the Sax Shepherd Designs wings and shoes - thank you for creators for making things modify ok! My favorite part is the eyeshadow, though - part of an early playful collection from HooT, they are ladybugs painted in a variety of colors - in this case green. I love playful touches like that, where the humor can be subtle and sweet.

Colour! Colour! Colour! Week 3: Dark Moderate Blue

This Week's Color is R:55 G:111 B:163 (aka #376fa3)

Colour! Colour! Colour! Week 3: Dark Moderate Blue

The outfit this week is a blast from the past - a past I get to play with all too rarely these days - my deep and abiding love for the Lolita Fashion style. There are a few stores around which do Lolita, but the days of extensive stores doing full on Lolita - very demure lines, knee to calf length skirts, lots of frills - has seemingly passed under the weight of trying to rig large, round mesh skirts. In the deep dive for appropriate blues I went through my blues folder, thinning out the herd and clearing away a lot of the detritus, but I couldn't resist showing off this dress from Arsenic Lace, with it's layered ruffles on the side and pleasing textures all over. Someday, perhaps, we will see this style of dress rendered in rigged mesh but for now I'll enjoy it through it's flexi heritage and marvel at the skill of creators to take simple shapes and make beauty out of them.

This Week's Color is R:112 G:55 B:163 (aka #7037a3)

Colour! Colour! Colour! Week 2: Dark Moderate Violet

I'm having fun finding and layering colors. This weeks dress was a shoo-in - I saw it on Flickr and ran right out to buy it because it was simply perfect! And it was on sale! The hair was harder; Michan is a gacha prize, and the color scheme I wanted was a rare, so the choice was improvise or spend a lot of Linden. I obviously ended up doing the former - the left side of my hair is shaded a pale blond and tinted this week's color, a smashing improvisation if I do say so myself! Like int he last image, the floor and walls around me were all tinted this week's color and I love the saturation effect, especially with the rest of the almost-perfect shades of violet I managed to assemble.

Colour! Colour! Colour! 1: Dark Moderate Pink

Colour! Colour! Colour! R:163 G:55 B:120

It's been a year since the end of the Twisted Color Challenge (My posts), another year since the end of the second Color Challenge (My posts), and Alyx Allero of Grafica Poses has resurrected the idea aknew for all of us to enjoy. These were the challenges which made me as a blogger and a photographer. Prior to the first Color Challenge (My posts) my posts were infrequent and chatty. Subsequently, I became a lot more regular and predictable in my work and made many of the contacts which I enjoy today. I have a lot to that that challenge for, and I'm looking forward to playing with even more explicit colors - this time named not by charming and often confusing names but rather by the RGB codes which we use on computers to quantify them. I love the idea, especially since it lets us explore what the color "really" is. In the image above, the floor, walls, and my socks are all tinted the same color, but the shadows and windlight make them very different shades. Darker and lighter, the variance of hues gives us a taste of how ephemeral color really is, even in a digital world the result of the eyes of the observer.
