Lucentia: Water Color

All in a moment, the world is remade in watercolor. Edges are a questionable thing, blurring into each other and fading into the water beyond. Trees wind knobbly knees against enormous paving stones dark with lichen and shot through with clumps of grasses. The bushes are masses of gold and green, leaves fanning out to catch the light behind soft ferns. The trees above glow mauve and brown, their trunks marked with moss and overgrown with ivy. Water was washed in with a wet brush, every color mingling in the gentle slap of waves against the shore. It surrounds the narrow band of water, reappearing again at the head of the path and forcing an abrupt turn into civilization. Wooden boards lay sedately beside each other; even the heaviest footstep can only summon a dull thunk out of the thick hardwood.

Lucentia: Inner Glow

From the first few steps onto the boardwalk, the incongruity of marble pillars and slat wood housing is overwhelming. It is as if two times have come together, combine so that neither is entirely lost. Stained glass sits in every window, every shape and color glowing with internal light, each representing a myriad of lives lived behind closed doors and thick glass. Diamond patterns rendered in rings of wood draw feet forward along the pier, the crystal which dominates the bay only then coming into view. Shining with rainbows mingled together, tiny glowing shapes flying around it,t he crystal appears to be suspended within a round chamber with sharp spines resting against it to hold it in place. The effect is mesmerizing, drawing many forward until they press against the logs which protect the water from those who press along it's edges.

Lucentia: Breakfast View

A closer view is possible from nearby temple remains which remain almost unnoticed against the grand edifice of the pier. Breakfast is laid out half finished, delicate cloths and cushions hinting at the comfort of the upper crust. Echoes of the untamed wilderness outside is captured and reproduced in curving planters for the enjoyment of those who pass; vines creep out of bushes and cling to the stems of street lamps that glow gold in the setting sun. Outside of those walls, Lucentia in miniature has sprung up in layers of tiny rooms with residents and visitors alike buzzing around them like bees. The breakfasters have moved now, making their lazy way along the waterfront to a divan arranged perfectly for enjoying the evening. Thick cushions offer a restful place to recline while an open bottle of red wine is already breathing, awaiting those who will partake of it's flavor.
